That looks like a SOG trident knockoff...[/QUOTE]

And this looks like a Spyderco Endura rip-off:

Do black-coated knives automatically fall under tacticlol (or tacticool) territory? Because I sure don't see them that way.

My country implements conscription for all males once they reach the age of majority, and I have completely lost count of the number of times the commanders preach about ensuring that our field equipment is well camouflaged. Because seriously, who goes out for military exercises carrying something with a mirror finish and giving away their location in the afternoon sun?

Dropping it in the darkness of night is a real PITA, I'll give you that. it's as good as lost should it happen.

^^^ Not tacti-LOL at all IMHO; some great blade coatings like DLC are black and they're cool so... ;):p:thumbup:

I-Fail knife tower:

Military is another thing, and surely, you want something more subtle but you have to distinguish actual military use knives and "tac-ops" black coated tactical knives that are sold clearly for armchair commandos and living room survivalists.

That would actually be a pretty cool desk ornament / letter opener

I agree, though could ditch the blade etching and the tower could look like actual tower. : P

Want to read a cool story? I was in workplace security training and our trainer told us a true story to illustrate how you newer know how people react in crisis. There was this junkie who had decided to rob a house where an elderly couple lived. He got in and tackled an old man to the floor shouting "THIS IS A ROBBERY!" The wife of this old man came to see what all this was about and saw the situation. She grabbed a poker by the fireplace and started hitting the robber. Soon they were running in circles in the living room, the robber shouting "THIS IS A ROBBERY" and the old lady shouting "F*K YOU" and kept on hitting with the poker.

The robber finally got to the door and in panic fumbled at the lock. The old man, who was unable to get up shouted "IT'S THE UPPER LOCK", he was actually afraid for the robber's life at this point. The junkie got out and was soon arrested.

Our trainer knew about the case because he had been working in the same jail where this criminal was doing time after this incident. You bet this junkie did not get any points from other inmates after they heard about his "attempted robbery". Newer underestimate an old lady with garden tools or a good poker. :D

It's always a bad idea to carry an open blade on the hip even if it's coated dark ;-)
As long as it's in the sheath the reflectiveness shouldn't matter.

How about these colorful shiny patches with flags on them?
Our sergeants told us to cover them with mud since total removal would violate some rule and one could be considered not a regular combatant and be shot on the spot when captured. No idea if it's true but back then there was no internetz to check anything.
Great if you have some uniquely patterned flag like stars and stripes then you can make your patches in camouflage colors.
If however you just have three stripes and make them green brown and black nobody will know if you are Italian French or German or many others :-p

yes ive seen that done before. most notably josh gates clips his spyderco in his belt loop

on another note people should feel safe this brave knight patrols our quite streets on the prowl for evil doers

As a nerd, I salute this guy.
He's got his cool bike, his racing jacket and his sword. All displayed in one picture of epic dorkyness.
Put a Captain America shirt under the jacket, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles backpack on his back, and a Power Rangers morpher on his belt buckle and he will be living the life I want!

Glad to see this thread back on the front page. Can't this just get stickied already?

Anyway, time for some OC (I think, I mean, it's 107 pages.)

(Pro tip: Don't google image search "Deadly knives" if you have a low tolerance for pictures of the aftermath of knife fights. I had just finished dinner before I searched that. Urp. Ugh.)

Fun fact - more than one of these knives cost over $200

That is so much awful.

I just don't get the point of unpointed "tactical" knives. Yo Dawg, I heard you like to use your knife as a prybar, so we took the knife out of your knife and made it into a prybar... with JIMPING. The knives just look pre-broken to me.

I think this pic is appropriate for this thread:

Ah, Skallagrim, you crack me up with your funny accent and antics...
