I like Tai Goo.

He is one of the most creative forces on the scene- a true individual, unlike any other here.. no doubt about it. His styles are bold and different. And his attitude (in words) is strongly independent.

He has been criticised for having views outside the box.. and perhaps starting fights. But I think that's just his fuzzy and warm nature coming through. -Inspiring people to think.

Please tell you favorite Tai story or knife photos .(singing songs of tribute is encouraged!)

Let's honor this great man! Embrace your fears.

(Tai Goo for honorary ABS MS!) ;)

totally different style from other knives and knifemakers but a terrific knife

Tai is an artist. By training, in mindset, and in practice.

The path he chose to use to express his artistry is bladesmithing.

IMNSHO, far too many people mistake craftsmanship for artistry.

I've admired Tai's work from pictures and hope to get to see some up close sooner or later. He is hosting a hammer-in along with Raymond Richard the last weekend of February. I had hoped to attend, but work has made that impossible.

I'm going to like this thread. :D I don't have much time now, but here's a current shot:

This was one of my favorites that i've seen by Tai Goo. It was called Toroidal integral:

I love a maker that walks his own road.

Tai is definately that

You can tell one of his pieces at a glance

I really like a maker that finds his own style and runs with it

Here's my newest one from Tai. It joins a dozen other Tai Goo blades in my care. In addition to Tai's effortless mastery over steel and his natural creative genius, he is one of the best bladesmithing teachers I know. His new DVD is excellent: Hot Forging Basics

Best of all, you can go and spend time with Tai in his shop. Watching him work, having him show you and teach you is time/money well spent. Just call him up.

Tai's "topsy turvy" design (below) is an example of his ability to fundamentally alter knife design in the service of strength, integrity, utility and beauty.

Tai's work is beautiful, and functions as well.

Artist and craftsman are not exclusive catagories. Tai Goo is both, in myopinion.

Do you know where there is more information on this?

the knives ain't too shabby either!

I also have a fondness and appreciation for Tai's approach to knife making, even though I know it drives some people absolutely crazy:)

Beautiful knife, Buddy. You know I own one of those too. How could I resist? :)

Back a number of years, I watched Tai's work unfold. I had taken a few shots for others:

So I talked with Tai, and we discussed what we would like. I wanted a long 'Mediterranean dirk' type of knife, but in his own style.

Tai sent me a few sketches, and the one on the right we settled on and he refined:

I wanted one of his characteristic mahogany scabbards. he creates his bush knives with them, and it is a captivating concept.

Here's his drawing after he decided to add some silver fittings to enhance this. This was a work-in-process. I would suggest, he would suggest, and in the end it was cool to be in the process. Fortunately, he kept me at an acceptable arms length. :D

When finished, the knife was even better than imagined:

The blade has a VERY fine polished with pumice finish on it, and he felt it would scratch easily going in and out of it's scabbard, so he created a trap door for release. It has a latch and hinge.

The very top of the handle has a small area that's not shown clearly. Let's just say it looks like a part of anatomy on a female that attracts men. <wink> Tai has a incorrigible wild streak in him.

He called it a 'Pig Sticker'. It's a trailer park name for a royalty dirk, but that's Tai!
