Tai Goo is Awesome thread.

Tai is an artist. By training, in mindset, and in practice.

The path he chose to use to express his artistry is bladesmithing.

IMNSHO, far too many people mistake craftsmanship for artistry.

however, Art without craftsmanship is a waste of material

I have ALWAYS looked up to Tai's creative vision, I've gone so far as to ask him If I could make a copy of a knife he made a couple years ago, as a learning experience.

the things I learned from making that knife and corresponding with him about it has lead me to new levels in my own knifemaking

bluejaunte: that is one of my all time favorites

Tai is one of my favorite makers. Not only is he very creative, but my experience is that he delivers when he says he will. Here are a couple of pictures (Tai's images) of a knife I own. Tai named it the walrus knife. Sorry about the small pictures.

My experience too - a rare and priceless quality from the customer/collector side of the fence.

With kudos to Buddy, if I might add already-seen knives. Here's MY 'Topsy Turvy' knife:

And this pair of forged socket integrals deserves a real close look:

I'll bet other makers who forge are letting out a long slow whistle at them. ;)

And lastly, you must have an imagination to see the likeness here. :) A W.I.P. shot.

Man... I've seen some of Tai Goo's work but this stuff is just nuts! Crazy cool and so different. I guess I really had no idea. Thanks for this thread and all the pictures posted!

I think I just had a paradigm shift. :p Well done sir! (and thanks)

Tai does some of my favorite work, and some of my least favorite... which I guess is the ultimate compliment!

That first one is amazing, I love his version of that blade shape. I also really like the round button type guard, who says it has to be a rectangle?

The second one is very subtle:p:D

Just the other day I was dropping hints to my wife that a visit to his workshop would make a great present for next christmas.

WOW....some IMPRESSIVE and extremely diverse images.

Thanks Buddy and Coop. This thread really increased my appreciation of Tai's skills.

Hi guys, some nice knives here. Unfortunatley, I do not have many pics of my knife collection and the ones I do have are not hosted online. One of these days, I will have to take the time to photograph them. I collect only Tai's early work and have many of them.

Tai may disagree, but his early work was amazing and really well executed. Another thing that I loved, was that Tai also used meteorites in almost all of his Damascus steel.

Coop, this is Eric.

I'd love to see some of Tai's earlier stuff.

Hi Eric,

I'll post up the batch you sent me later this evening. Thank YOU!

Guys, I KNOW Eric has superb taste in knives. He's like me and will snatch and search out any Hill Pearce knives that stagger his way. ;) Another afficianado.
