I use to own a really really nice stag handled lil' Carver #26, but the 3" frame for me was too short and wide that in use I couldn't work it properly...so, and I've had this wish for a while now, if GEC could put that blade into the #79 Frame, the two bladed version not the three, that would provide a bit more handle, and if they even kept the smaller narrower blade but as a pen blade, wow, that would be pretty slick whittling knife right there!!!

I made a copy of the photo, lengthened the handle and overlaid it onto the normal size Lil' Carver blade, not to scale but you can get the idea.

I know that SAK has some place you can "make your own SAK" site where you can pick and chose what items you want it to include, if it fits.

I think that may be something GEC could take on, also like the Custom shop for BUCK knives, of course it would be a charge for breaking the batch flow but if they have the scales, frames and blades they might be able to say ok you MIGHT be able to make the knife of your dreams...

Hey it's America, anything can happen right?
ok back to dreaming!!! ;)

thanks and yeah, that's close, but for whittling you do need a shorter blade but longer handle for better control, so while that looks really nice, and will probably end up being one I'll get just because ;), I would still like to get that frame but with a shorter wharncliff blade and possibly a small pen blade like on the TC Barlows...

And yeah, can't wait for THAT one you posted to be available, while my wallet says "oh...not to worry, you CAN wait!!!" ;)

Warren, several years ago, had a set of folding whittling knives, made by Schrade. I have yet to use them, but they look pretty useful.

They put thick handles on them, allowing a little customizing and a hefty grip.
They seem like a good length, also.

Gotcha ;)

Dont know if a shorter blade version will ever come to light but you may be able to get one of these and have someone re-grind the blade to your liking? Be way cheaper then a custom but still get you where ya want to be.

Nice Charlie! looks very much like what I'm shooting for there! Probably not around any longer I'm betting :(

I'm thinking 1980s maybe?? They turn up, but infrequently. I've seen 3 or 4 unused sets over 10 years or so. But I haven't really been looking.
Of all the attempts at folding whittling knives, these might be among the best.
They need that generous handle, IMO. A 3 3/4" jack or so.
Maybe the future holds one!?!?

As one of my favourite trilogy movies say, "Back to the Future" ;) you can never tell what may happen!
Thanks for the info on those!

I've said it before and I'll say it again! The need for a frame of this size, #79 shaped or equal ended is great:)

How about a 57 Half Whitt though? Quite a short Wharncliffe and a Pen blade all on one spring.

I haven't tried the halfwitt yet, maybe worried folks would get the wrong idea ;) I had the regular size and like it, but let her go for some reason I can't recall, might have been a bit too thick on a small frame, but that's a good idea, I'll have to give those not so bright knives another look see :) Thanks!

Thanks Sarah and yep needs to be shorter blade, checking out the not so bright folders right now, ugh, have to sell something else! lol

Thanks Sarah and yep needs to be shorter blade....

I am fond of the wharncliffe blade on the #26s, how it curves so completely from tang to point (unlike many iterations with more parallel spines and edges), but wonder if-- assuming two blades, as per the #26-- such a spine shape would prove comfortable when using the secondary blade. It's proportional shortness (relative to the handle length) might leave quite a protusion mid-handle...?

The Half Whitt certainly has a frame shape similar to a 26. Just comparing my green Bone 57 with a Primitive Bone 26 with Clip.

That 26 has the most fearsome nail buster on any knife I own, no joke with such a small frame! Pretty knife mind.

well the not so bright folder has more curves to it than the #26 does, the #26 is more a sleeve board style.

I have this old Kershaw Double Cross, I call it a Neo-Traditional folder, while it looks like a regular traditional, the blades have thumbstuds and the center liner is made so both blades will lock in the open position. So you have a pretty cool double liner lock. They stopped making these a few years back but BladeHQ picked up some from somewhere, off the back of a truck ? ;) however they found some, I had one and sold it, always need money it seems, so I really missed it, has SanMai Damascus blades which in and of themselves are pretty cool too.
Handle is about 3 1/2" long, small wharncliff blade is about 2" long and even with that I sometimes wish it was just a hair shorter, which in time, it may be ;)

looking back I owned both the wharncliff blade and the clip point version of the Whittler

on this one you can see the hand sanding on the bolsters, gave them a satin finished look, seemed to carry better that way too.

Nice Jeff, appreciate that as I no longer have the three bladed one on hand any more, can't remember if the three blade had more than one back spring?

The full whittler is a split spring, never owned one myself but would imagine the Half to be much slimmer. I loved the feel and the frame gives you a lot of control. Would be a great carving knife I just dont like pen blades(I know, I know).

thanks Jeff, and pen blades, they can grow on ya! great for opening packages so you don't cut too deep, handy, some arrive and need a lot of sharpening but afterwards, very very nice!
