Take a GEC #26, stretch the frame to a #79, ...there, thats better ;-)

Thanks Brian, that'll be fine the way she is, that Hounds tooth of yours sure is pretty, like the shield too!

Thanks Gary. I'm fairly certain the blade is longer on the houndstooth. I'm sure the specs are on the GEC site too.

The hounds tooth does look a tad bit longer and the frame seems more wavey? I hope to have the "not so bright" or NSB here by end of next week or sooner, with that one I have a long pull on it, so if I really needed to shorten it, I'd still have a notch there to draw upon ;)

And that enhanced photo sure shows that pretty wood nicely!!!

The main things are a nice fine tip for detail, a superfine strop polished edge at a low angle, and a nice big handle. I use a combo of a flexcut carving jack and a few little stockmans to do most of my stuff. But I do have a reground straight razor that I'll be handling with amboyna burl as soon as I have my shop finished. I've actually used it without a handle and it's by far my favorite carving knife of all.

Thanks for the tips, I've heard tell of people using old straight razors for carving duck decoys

These two were done mostly with slip joint. 2 old timer stockmans from when I was a kid

Wow, very cool work there!

Hah John, I recently picked up the Damascus one so...there ;)

The Houndstooth has a slightly longer blade but the Half-Whitt has a much wider blade. Thus, having frames that are inverted, the Half-Whitt has the wider joint end.

well the not so bright folder has more curves to it than the #26 does, the #26 is more a sleeve board style.

I have this old Kershaw Double Cross, I call it a Neo-Traditional folder, while it looks like a regular traditional, the blades have thumbstuds and the center liner is made so both blades will lock in the open position. So you have a pretty cool double liner lock. They stopped making these a few years back but BladeHQ picked up some from somewhere, off the back of a truck ? ;) however they found some, I had one and sold it, always need money it seems, so I really missed it, has SanMai Damascus blades which in and of themselves are pretty cool too.
Handle is about 3 1/2" long, small wharncliff blade is about 2" long and even with that I sometimes wish it was just a hair shorter, which in time, it may be ;)

Being a rabid Kershaw fan, and admiring the Japanese Damascus used in their kitchen knives, after this post I had to order one; it's on the way. Looks like the Trad forum's gotten me for two new knives in under a week. Dangerous place. :)

Thx G2!

I think you'll love it, nice size and neat concept, surprised there are not more of this type out there!
and yes, you're most welcome ;)
