Hello Knife People!

A little history:

I’ve been essentially obsessed with knives since a very young age, and as my exposure to knives has grown, my appreciation for them has as well.

I’m lucky enough to be able to use my knives outdoors frequently, and this is one of my favorite activities.

As my resources have increased, I’ve found myself spending more on knives and buying them somewhat more frequently.

My wife is super cool (thanks Baby if you ever happen to read this ❤️!) and has never questioned my purchases, but we’re both pretty frugal generally so I try to keep myself in check, as I’m under no illusions that these objects are “investments” for the most part.

Partly I keep myself in check (not purchasing multiple expensive knives in a row) so that if a “grail” shows up, I’ll be able to grab it.

Ok back to the present:

I was lucky/fast enough to score a Busse Combat Military Overrun Liberty Heart in what Busse calls a “Ganzaa”. It should be in the mail soon, and I’m pretty excited.

This knife is among my very favorite designs of anything they have offered and will be my first Busse (although I’ve been a fan for 2+ decades and have several Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard knives).

It came at a slightly awkward time however, as I’ve recently been spending more than usual. 😅

Anyway, I made a decision, and told my wife (to make it stick) that I wouldn’t be buying any knives for myself for a year.

She may have rolled her eyes JUST a little, and then she started to say something about the calendar year, but I cut her off and proclaimed that it would be a solid 12 months.

And surprisingly, it feels pretty good knowing I don’t have to pay such close attention to everything for awhile.

Have you ever considered taking an official break? Saving up for something special might help. (You can tell your partner I said so). 😉

Gotten myself only few ones this year (and sold few to justify them) and I feel pretty much set at this moment. I keep my eye open mostly in the secondary market if something amazing comes up but I'm not obsessing. I have one custom order for next year so only one certain knife in radar.

That's fantastic! You've got a keeper there. Talking about the wife. Ok, that knife is a keeper too.

I haven't taken a break. However, I have slooooowed way down. Going after things I really want, not just what pops up and looks really cool. I've narrowed my list down to exactly five knives left...I think haha.

Good luck on your year long quest!

yes I'm in it.

thre have been a ton of things come up that I would otherwise have bought, become bored of, and sold... at a loss I'm sure.

Congrats on a kickass fake bussee. Send it to me for proper disposal when it arrives. we cant have it mingling with any REAL Busse blades in the wild. Cross contamination would be devastating.

Welp, with the economy in the tank and no clue as to when it’ll climb out, my knife buying days are over….at least for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, this “decision” comes about as I own multiple knives that have been “safe queens” for years. Time to get up-close and personal with the collection while redirecting financial assets to every day needs!

(P.S. If I inquire regarding a For Sale Listing one of you may have in the Exchange, please tell me to F-Off❗️) 😁

He needs to go to a halfway house for a knife addictions. It's going to be rough at first, but after a couple weeks ddt's might subside. We all have struggles in life but addictions are tough to beat. Similar to cigarettes. I can't stop. I guess one day I'll stop when I'm dead

I started buying on the secondary market and selling stuff that I am bored with so my $ input has gone down some. My wife and I are both pretty frugal because we both grew up poor so neither of us spends crazy money on hobbies. Although we seem to have a lot of fast cars, Jeeps and guns lately.

I am there as well. More knives than I need or can use. My problem, I don’t sell anything. I have gifted a few.

Important to know what triggers your impulse to buy a new knife. Steel, design, maker. Stay away from the forums and you have a chance.

I've purchased 2 knives this year, but am selling one of them. I also have a custom on order that will be coming in November. I won't be buying anything else, and I'm not even looking. I already have next year's purchases planned out. I'm going to buy one, maybe two next year.

I'm saving to buy a second car. I'm in midlife crisis mode lol. Not looking to spend much, something older but fun, a driver not something pristine.

Part of my reason for cooling off is that I've gotten into custom and "higher end" knives. Next year I plan to buy a Biryukov in S390.

I'm considering selling a few knives, and if I do, then I might use that money to get that Biryukov this year.

Despite how saturated the market is, my tastes have narrowed to the point where 90% of folders are uninteresting to me. I have a custom fixed blade, and don't plan to buy anymore.

I tend to bounce around in my hobbies, but I've completely stopped many, and I'm done (for the foreseeable future) buying guns. I'm planning to buy my mother a Sig P365XL as she is going to get her CCW permit. That's a gift though.

I have slowed down a bunch the past year or 2, compared to previous years, but after this year's lift on banned auto's took effect in my state, I've been doing a bit of spending here and there adding a few of them to my repertoire.
My wife wants an otf now, (in orange) so I just bought myself a blue utx-85 off the exchange so she can compare it in hand next to a manticore S. Whichever she chooses, that orange one for her, and then I think a Gaurdian Tactical, a McNees and a ProTech OTS, and I think I'll be back out of the market for a little while again, (or maybe I'll add a few new fixed blades?).

Around 2016, yeah, that's when I stopped buying knives. I've been on that break ever since, with a very few exceptions purchases since then - just the Bladeforums traditional forum knives in 2018 and 2022, and will probably add 2023 to that list.

Recommend not constantly visiting knife forums or whatever people use today to show off their latest buy. Just feeds into the desire, envy, fomo emotions that make you click that "add to cart" button.

Just take the time to fully enjoy your existing knives. It's not like they wear out under any reasonable use scenario. If one DOES break or you wear it out, then sure, buy a replacement. Otherwise, just use what you have, it'll be fine.

I'm kinda the opposite. I was on a long break for a number of years. Then I started browsing this site again and wouldn't you know I've ended up with like half a dozen folders and ordered my first custom fixed blade all within a couple of months. Looks like it might be time for another break before my wallet catches fire.
