Taking payment and friendly fraud

Anyone care to get back on the topic of the original post?

Nah! I completely understand what you are saying Knuckle! PP will instantly side with the buyer. All they need do is say they received an "empty box", or the wrong merchandise, and the seller is screwed! PP will charge it back without the buyer ever having to send back the merchandise. PP also makes PLENTY of money whoring out our Emails and advertising because of the amount of users on their site! They make plenty! And I think it's wrong of them to charge.

I've only used them a couple times, and now never! But the times I did, I also used FF with an actual online friend of mine, and the other time the buyer wanted to use PP so much I said, OK, but I won't ship the knife until I can draw the money from PP to my account. And I emmediately pulled the funds from that account. So PP would not have been able to charge anything back anyway. I'm like you knuckles. I'm a hobbyist. I don't advertise. And I only sell a few blades here & there. I just simply don't deal with PP anymore.

I didn't think you were wrong though.

I can respect that policy as I tend to use the it's not a done deal until both sides are satisfied ...

For some reason this didn't post after my earlier post????

In reply to the OP question:

I have a standard policy - If you don't like or want the knife, let me know and return it for a full refund. This policy negates anyone needing to do a complaint or chargeback.
I am the seller and it is my job to make the customer happy. They are the buyer, and if they aren't happy, regardless of how silly the reason may seem to me, it is their prerogative to return it for refund, adjustment, or replacement.

Also, I keep the quality high, and the price good. These also asure a happy customer.

In all, I have had two knives returned because the person didn't like it. One was a gift and the recipient didn't like that style, and the other was too small for the users hand. I refunded the first, and made a larger one for the other.

but I think this is more about reguardless of the buyer being happy or not they keep your knife and file a claim it didn't get delivered or the box was empty etc ... and that's the problem ...

so how often does this actually happen with knife makers? It sucks that people have to be dishonest and what not.
What is the best way to do a financial transaction online so it works best for everyone then?
I recently had someone hack my PP and buy video games no money in my PP account so they took it out of my bank account. It all got settled but it sucked to go through.

More often than you can count....There is a section in the Exchange GB&U (Good,Bad, and Ugly) There is a sticky on PayPal discussions!

Having the customer pay via wire transfer or ACH is very easy and there is no possibility of fraud.

Fake money orders are being used more often. We no longer accept any type of money order, including USPS. You will not find out a M/O is fake for several days, including Postal M/O's cashed at the post office.

You're in a different boat (as most here) than me where I mainly provide a service vs selling something. So I have the advantage of being able to wait until something clears first ... Do you know how long it takes for a money order to clear?

Also, If you cash a postal MO at the post office and they give you the cash, just curious how they come back and get the money from you if it is fake? Do they take your info down?

Most often they'll refuse to cash it at all if it's any significant amount, for not having cash on hand.

I have the same policy as Stacy, If the customer isn’t happy for “any” reason. Simply return it to me in the same condition and they can have a full refund or they have full purchase price credit towards any other knife in stock or will make another for them.———-/////——- Only two every exchanged .. Both were gifts! Keep the customer happy and you’ll be etc.. happy!......I know there are plenty of scammers out there... I don’t sell my knives out of country and ask quite a lot of questions which is important for the building, of the knife,,sizing the handle etc. Scammers want the quick money most of the time!

What is ACH ?

..........

Sellers asking to be paid with F&F by somebody that is not F&F should be avoided. If you dont understand why spend a little time reading the Good Bad and Ugly forum

When we deposited the fake/fraudulent money order we received, the bank response was about 12-13 business days. I do not remember the specific number of days, but I do remember having a discussion with the bank and asking why it took almost three weeks to notify us the M/O was bad.

I hate to hear these issues.
I think that the happy customer idea can also be flipped to think about how nice it is to have a happy craftsman.
For example, I always pay a sheathmaker like Paul Long promptly, which I believe can only help with future pricing and turnaround times.

As far as a US Post Office money order, I agree with what Kuraki said, my experience has been they say they don't have the money to cash it.

Unfortunately the fine folks don’t seem to be able to even give me my mail, & my neighbor her mail for more than a week without screwing it up these days so I don’t use the USPS for any financial transactions!!;)

I've used PP since '03, many hundreds of transactions and haven't had one problem. Maybe I'm overdue, but I'll keep on with them.
