Talk me out of a Spyderco Police...

oh trust me. Whether I buy a new knife or not, I WILL buy beer.

Going to a great local brewery tonight in fact. Probably start off with a nice amber, throw a couple IPAs in the middle when the band gets cranking, then finish it off sipping their amazing Oatmeal stout out on the balcony.

After reading this, now I'm ready for drinking some beer on the balcony.

I'm sure you hate classic knives.
High production quality surely pisses you off.
Maximum blade length for the handle size...who wants that?
Functional serrations that cut efficiently while looking good are completely yucky.
You definitely should not get one. ;)
yeah i hate those also.

lol wtf, that suggestion is from left field...

That knife is completely different, not classic or iconic in the slightest. And I already have the Military which has a titanium framelock, way better steel than ELMAX, and even better grip (for me).... So, not sure what that has to do with anything?

It's in the terms of use. Every thread that asks a Spyderco specific question must have at least one off the wall suggestion from a Kershaw fan.

I'm dying for one too, and as long as they don't discontinue it soon, I'm sure I'll end up with one. It's just way too big for me to actually carry. Bootiful knife though.

Wow a carbon fiber police? This knife never had my interest but now im interested.

Yes, there was a carbon fiber version several years ago. They aren't really easy to find now, though. I really need to update that picture, I've added a left hand version and a saber ground G-10 since then.

Okay, now I'm going to hijack this thread for a minute myself. My experience is that lockbacks don't open as easily as a frame lock, meaning the Police would take a little extra oomph to get open than the military, which I suspect just springs open when you want it to. Am I blathering about something everyone else already knows so don't feel compelled to point out? Am I absolutely wrong? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yes, the backlock has more closing bias, and it requires a bit more effort to open. If you get used to the "Spyderdrop" opening method as I have, the difference is negligible, especially since the heavier handle of the stainless Police offsets the additional force needed quite handily.

Love mine and carry it a LOT. So slim it's easy to forget it's running the backup role in my LFP.

Tie someone to a chair and slice an apple menacingly? You've been watching "Life", haven't you? Made me want a 1/2 serrated police to go with my much used and loved PE model. Back in a previous life when I was a Sheriffs deputy, I carried mine clipped to the front of my bulletproof vest under my shirt in case I needed a hidden poker for someone :) The full serrated parkerized model looks absolutely bad ass though!

I thought so too - gave up a keeper to get that one precisely because I've so seldom seen an all black Police, serrated or not.

I was raised on Spydie lock backs, yeah there's a slight difference in opening, but it doesn't affect much in practice.

haha yeah, been watching Life. good show.

Nuts. Why did I open this thread. I just realized the police has the same handle contours of the cara cara 2 that fits my hand perfectly. :p
