Talk me out of getting rid of my Techno

Alright folks, I've found myself grabbing my BM 940 more and more and paying no attention to my ZT 0550 and Spyderco Techno. I've already sold the 0550, because I found it too big/bulky to reach past while in my pocket. I don't have that excuse with the Techno, but I don't find myself carrying it in the rotation very often. The 940 is just so light and narrow, and it's really easy to tote in your pocket. It definitely gets the most pocket time.

What knives do you guys find yourselves carrying the most and why?

Bahahaha!!

Sorry man, I read the title and thought, "that's" easy to do"......I would get one hell of an infraction though!!

Besides that, the techno is one exceptional little knife, I would never want to talk you out of it!

The 940 is a classic that's been relevant for almost 15 years now (I am bad with dates) and you've figured out the reason why.

Nothing wrong with owning both, there may be a time when you move back to the techno for one reason or another...

I go through phases. Each one will go with me for a week or so (maybe more). Then I'll be playing with one at night and that ones goes with me the next day and the cycle starts over lol. I would keep the techno. I just picked one up and can't wait to get it. Great little knife

I think the Techno is one of the best knives Spyderco has ever made. It really is a small knife that performs like a big knife.

That said, if you don't like it or use it, pass it on. Life is too short and there are too many other knives to try out instead of hanging onto a knife you don't like.

The 940 is a fantastic knife by the way. I had one, passed it on and eventually tracked down another. You of course could always do the same if you regret parting with the Techno.

Sell both and buy a 940-1 or 940-1501.

yep, that's typically how the techno finds its way back in to my pocket for a couple days...but then I'm right back to the 940.

yeah, that's what I like about it when I bought it. Small knife big ability. I just don't carry the thing. I think you said it best...if you don't like it pass it on. I want to like it...but I guess it just isn't growing on me.

Ones ~7" oal, ~3" blade, preferably liner lock (no metal handles), High speed steel, spear point blade.
Because it covers the most uses I have for a knife.

There's other specifics I prefer from using knives for more than 50 years, but those are the basics for a 1 blade folder.

If you like having the techno, keep it. Even if you dont carry it. If you're like me, you will say to yourself "i dont use it, so ill sell it". Then no more then a year later you will say "i really liked that techno, why did i sell it?" ive had many a sellers remorse. Always go with your gut feeling on things. And i also believe a knife doesnt have to be used to be enjoyed.

I love my Techno, but like you, I've gotten some other knives recently and it's not getting much carry time. That being said, I never get rid of a good knife, or one I know I will carry because it suits my carry needs. I tend to keep most of the smaller knives I get and sell the bigger ones that don't get much carry time. To me a clipless Techno is a great drop-in-the-pocket EDC. I say keep her, I know I will mine. Tiny brute is what it is.

Since you're talking about two of my favorite folders I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in the pot. The 94X series is my all time favorite EDC knife. No need to explain to you why, you already know. I have two, the 940 for regular EDC and the 940-1 for dress and just plain showing off when I get together with my buds. If there's a better carrying 3.5" EDC out there, I've never held it.

With that said, I love the Techno for what it is. Little big knife, unique. The fit and finish on mine is astounding. Hope yours is the same. I know that many people on this forum echo the same opinion about theirs. I don't own any mid techs or high end customs but can't imagine anything being considerably better in the f&f department. I simply cannot find a flaw anywhere. It's a very unique and IMO beautiful design and while being small has large cutting capabilities for it's size.
So instead of comparing the two and choosing one over the other, love them both for being what they are, different and amazing in their own right.

To answer your second question, I have 7 different folders I carry on a regular basis, each one for specific occasions and or tasks. I love them all.

.
not soo much in fit and finish. But other areas of quality exist (I agree Taichung makes nice stuff like any CNC machine ;) )

I used to think the same thing till I got one.
First let me say I'm a huge spyderco benchmade and zt fan but.....

After getting some higher end knives they just don't get any pocket time....

The reasons are many but here is one that just plain old flip the switch.

THE CARRY CLIP DUH THE PART WE USE MORE THEN THE BLADE :)

I have sprung and or broke almost every kid of clip I can think of snagging on somthing... this is where the difference simple but the devil is in the details.

I haven't gotten even close to losing any clip tension since I switched over .

Then other bits of quality come out ......

Now I'm not dogging spidies and benchmades zt cs CRK Blk jk tops buck ect ect.

But they are feeling real lonely in the case...
I was inches away on making a 940_1 limited in d2 for my higher end edc but I didn't want to spend that much on a "benchmade". That's when my mid tech sickness surfaced ; (

And I haven't had a "want" to look for another since I got these blades

(but if any of you Wana get rid of your 940 1501 cfd2. Let me know lol)

The Techno is of Lum design, which are based on a Chinese style blade that is usually spear-tip but beefier with a belly of both sides. Like a dual-edged leaf style blade. It's a really nice design in use both very effective, efficient and practical requiring less energy and movement to make a cut, not unlike a Fairbairn but more practical being fatter.

Lums are really sweet and usually limited in production (not limited edition), making them fairly sought after for the more discerning taste. By that I mean a prospective buyer that cares.

Lum + Spyderco = Good

It's not a common Military, Endura, Sage, sameness.

I've bought/sold about five or so over the last two yrs. I've never carried one, but it's a fine folder, and capable of many heavy-duty uses. I have a NIB Techno in my knife-box here...just "because." I might sell it one of these days, but I won't be carrying it. It is akin to having an old Porsche in the garage that you admire from time to time, but don't ever seem to drive it any more.
It is enjoyable to keep a few examples of higher-class folders "on hand"...just to handle them occasionally.

If it doesn't see pocket time I'd get rid of it. Doesn't mean it's a bad knife, just not your cup of tea.

Sell it and buy something that checks the same boxes as the 940. Then you just have to toss a coin to choose.

The techno is a great little tank, but if you don't use it. I would venture to say sell it. Now I need to go through some knives and determine which ones need to go. Will have to table that for a later time.

Pretty sound advice. I kick myself all the time for stuff I thought I didn't like anymore and got rid of, only to find my interest rekindled at a later date. :(

Thought it was designed by some Polish bloke that I can never spell the last name of... slysz?
