Tank of a knife?

I like my ZT 0200 for a moderately priced production tank.

I like my Strider AR framelock and SmF for higher end (and higher priced) production tank.

I like the Hinderers also - it's just that the availability is tough and unless you're somewhat lucky the secondary market mark up is sometimes tough to swallow.

I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, but I really love carrying my BM 755 MPR (#73 of 1000)
Thick handle... 3 inch blade of M390 steel...awesome Shane Sibert design.
Decent price tag as well

Was thinking the same thing , since the usual have been recommended.

I'm carrying mine today. I spent maybe 5 hours on my stones thinning the edge down a lot and I'm pretty darn impressed with the razor edge M390 takes and holds , I think this is a great steel so far !

I think Benchmade is a little disappointed though because, from what I gather the 755 was not very well received , there were a lot for sale real soon after the release , some for well under the usual price on websites. It is definatley not a knife for everyone.

Anyone know if BM has a knife about as thick and sturdy as the 755 but with a longer blade?

I've emailed andrew andam anxiously waiting for his reply! His ad-10 is exactley what I'm looking for!

I've bought 2 Kershaw Tyrades in the last few weeks. 1 nib ti and 1 black g-10 used. Fantastic knife. Just about as HD as the ZT. No they're not made any more but they are

out there.

PM me if you want to get a nib ti Tyrade.

Not to pic nits but none of the folders mentioned here are non-knife people friendly. A pink Izula or an orange Bravo necker would be a lot more friendlier than any of the knives mentioned above and a great deal tankier. Just an observation.

Ya, for sure. The ZT 200 would look just as menacing as many fixed blades :D

Maybe look at a Manix 2 or the ZT0350. maybe not a tank, more of an APC ...;)

Like others mentioned, the Zero Tolerance line by Kershaw comes to mind when it comes to 'tank' production folders. However in the custom end of the spectrum, Crusader Forge (aka, Trident Knives) comes to mind.

There are a lot to choose from but one of my favorites is the Ontario Hossom Retribution 1. The Titanium liners are as thick as some frame locks, the N690 steel takes a great edge and I've used mine for years and it works as well today as it did the it arrived new. It has a fantastic handle that feels like it was custom made for your hand with no hot spots even after heavy use. I know that on one of the knife/blade forums a few years back Mike Stewart of BRKT said that it was the nicest heavy duty folder that he'd ever used.

I've heard nothing but great things about the ZT series of knives as well.

Mind my mind is imploded that no one has recommended the Cold Steel AK-47 or Recon 1. Both INCREDIBLE tank knives at a miniscule cost.

I mentioned the tri-ad folders but get used to that..coldsteel never gets much credit on this board.

The Grayman Satu is a large tank of a knife. Here it is with some other heavy duty folders.

I always think of a tank folder having thickened componets, i.e. blade, liners, pivot, stop pin.

But not all I'm going to mention have all those attributes. I would have say the ZT0200, and ZT0500 have to be tanks, probably a Sherman. The Ontario Retribution 1 is a step up as it has some serious thickness in the blade and liners, but not so for the pivot and stop pin. Don't know though how thick the pivot and stop pin really need to be in regards to a folder being considered a tank. I do know the Retribution has ti liners .100" and a blade .200" thick. The UE M1911 I just received has a blade .157" thick (same as the ZT's I mentioned), a full steel frame, and lockbar/backspacer that's a tad thicker than the blade, weighs 8.1 ounces, and the Hammerhead Lock looks to be thick enough and strong enough to hold up, so it certaintly feels heavy duty!

I've been meaning to pick up one of those ZT0200's myself, looks like a very nice knife. I've heard that the liners are very thick on that knife as well and lockup is great. I really love the blade shape of the ZT0200, reminds me of my BM Skirmish 630BK1.

If memory serves I think that the stop pin on the Retribution is something like 3/8" and the pivot is fine but doesn't appear to be as massive as everything else on that knife.

I can say that back when I was able to take my son camping we used the Retribution 1 just like you would a fixed blade and it held up fantastic and still works great. For whatever reason those knives never became as popular nor were talked about in these forums as much as they should have been. Keep in mid that Retribution 1 is VERY thick and is 10.5" long.

There are a TON of great choices out there today....best of luck.
