hey yall.
been REALLLLLLLY busy... but here is something that i finally finished. It has been almost a year. This was made on commission, and was an evolution of design. started out as a american tanto (i had made one for the same guy before) then a habaki was added.. still with a wrapped handle, then what about a tsuba? oh what the heck..why not.. (the customer is never wrong) then why not through a real handle on there.. and oh by the way the habaki the tsuba and menuki need to be silver... so this is the result!

forged W2 blade
cast and antiqued sterling silver habaki, menuki, and tsuba.
copper seppa
madegascar ebony tsuka
silk ito

comments would be VERY welcome. and it might be up for sale. the guy who ordered it has dropped off the face of the planet.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!

I'd LOVE to have something like that my damnself.....:D

ALMOST everything looks great on it.

The same' is not premium and those open spaces between the nodes really detract from the overall picture.

A ridged or rounded spine is practically de rigeur, for both practical and aesthetic concerns.

That said, you have come SO far in small periods of time, it is amazing to watch.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I'd echo STeven's comments. While historical examples exist for the kaku-mune you've used, I've never seen one face-to-face. :D

That's a very nicely done habaki, but I myself prefer one that is traditionally constructed.

Even so, I'd be proud to wear that in my obi!

I have watched your work for a while and you always seemed to have a raw talent; good material choices, an eye for design, and good finish. But you have come a long way even from that excellent start. This looks fantastic.

like others, I am amazed by your progress:thumbup::).
Your, and other's, exploration of the craft is a vital component to Bladeforums.

thanks guys!
i have to give yll credit for the fast progress. i have learned so much here on the forums that would have taken so much longer to learn by experience. especially polishing... some was trial and error.. but yall really helped. so give yourself the pat on the back.
thank YOU.

Outside my normal realm of interest, however further demonstrates your great diversity, impressive talent and remarkable improvement of skills over a short period of time.

We just never know what extraordinary piece we will see from you next.

I look at your threads and invariably I mutter ..."Damn, that's nice!" every time.

Beautiful.
