Tax refund knife, looking for a nice gentleman's folder

Don't forget to check out Moki knives. They are very nice - I got an Aries in the mail a few days ago, and finish and fit are pretty close to perfect....

All excellent suggestions I'll definitely have some thinking to do while i'm waiting on my refund.

MNANDI all the way. Not only is it one of the best knives ever made it is the best gentelmams knife ever made without a doubt IMO. Custom knives can't even compete with all the advantages the Mnandi have.

what are the advantages of the Mnandi?

Ah, but you've probably not yet fondled a Klotzli! This small Swiss brand is in my opinion the equal of Chris Reeve when it comes to precision and general refinement. They are gentlemeny (yet pretty sturdy) in style hence they are more in competition with the Mnandi than the Sebenza. Many Klotzlis look awesome:

I would also have a closer look at the Fontenille Pataud Gentlemen laguiole. Now the handles of this model is rather round so they are more visible to carry:

For a chic Japanese approach, also check an upmarket Mcusta or Moki:

I also like the above mentioned Burger a lot, and it must be said that the affordable production from Boker Plus is really very well done as well.

If you are interested in seeing some of the above knives (and some other good gentlemeny knives) in the hand, then I humbly invite you to have a look at my video reviews, and in particular at clips 1,4,6,7,8,46,53,57,60 (for the Robert Klaas Monolith),81,82 and the very special custom in clip 78.

what are the advantages of the Mnandi?

Let me try. The Mnandi is light weight, has a clip, has CRK unparalleled workmanship, and the natural materials (e.g., wood, mammoth, etc.) are all very high quality. Despite its size, it can handle moderately tough work. It's also very sheeple friendly.

I would go for the Mnandi or a Klotzli. I work in an office environment and they are perfect, or would be perfect for a goin'-to-church type of dress up occasion. The WH's are very nice too, but in the past few years it's harder to get your money's worth from them. JMHO YMMV

I have received my refund and i settled on the Mnandi with box elder inlays. I'm just having a hard time actually pushing the button and buying it.

while i would like the mnandi i really can't justify the price even with my tax refund. I'm going for a Spyderco Kiwi. I'm surprised nobody suggested the Kiwi, it's the epitome of the gentleman's folder. Nonthreatening, elegant design, exotic handle inlays. I'm going for picasso marble.

I am sorry you feel the you cannot justify the Mnandi. I really love mine (although it does not get the pocket time it should). I have wanted a Kiwi for a long time but somehow one has never made it into my collection. I hope you enjoy your new Kiwi.

I hope to get one some day. Probably as a present for myself when i buy a house. It's just really hard to spend that much on a knife. about $200 is where i start to question my purchase.

Dagon- You have very nice taste! Those are very nice looking knives...all of them.

The Burger appeals to me a lot. The simple lines really call to me. (Can I get a Coke and fries with that?)

The Spyderco Sage2 Ti RIL is a nice little gentleman's knife. It has great ergonomics, and a clean open back design that's easy to inspect and clean. Doesn't have the Sebenza pivot and lock up but it doesn't have the Sebenza price either.

What's wrong with the lockup on the sage 2? i already own one and the lockup is perfect.

Then you're a lucky man. ;)

It's been my experience that the Sebenza has a nicer lockup than the Sage2 I've got. But I don't hold that against the Sage2. The Sebenza I saw just had tighter specs on the moving parts.

The taxman was very good to me this year. I covered all the bases and bought an SnG, Leek, Menefee Swayback custom, and another Leafstorm.
