Taylor/China LB7: Suck

I stand corrected, to say the least. For some reason I've always thought of the LB7 as a 110 knockoff but you guys are correct. The basic pattern had been around for a long time. Buck simply made them a household name with their sheer popularity. As for the China outsourcing, yeah I hate the thought of it also. Chinese manufactured goods are everywhere. It's getting to the point that you can't stay in business without having your product (or at least some pieces of it) made there.

Anyways. My apologies for stepping into your fine forum over here and showing my arse. I was way out of line. :foot:

You are Ok. It takes balls to voice an opinion it takes integrity to back or amend that opinion depending on whether it is right or wrong. Or as the song says you have got to stand for something or youll fall for anything. LT PS I have made so many mistakes for my rather outspoken ways that for those who know me I no longer have recite the whole thing I just give a number and they know which version it is.

Micheal where are you ??? I mean bite me, now that cracked me up. If we killed all of those who did not echo our opinions we would ??? well we would be what we are simply human. Sometimes as I sit alone becoming crazier than I was the day before I wonder if there are really others out there ( in cyberspace) if there are perhapes there is hope and knowledge to be learned by all. Oh, I am about. Had I opinioned the death of a messenger of foul tidings, I could and would have said just that. Besides, I am just a pigment of the collective imagination anyway. Sometimes I bite my own tongue to keep from responding to folks in kind, and sometimes I just throttle back my response to a brief, easily understood metaphor. I'm glad I edited it back to what I did, as I am sure I would miss me had I been banned. If I exist that is.

Cool! I've been visited by the ghost of posts past! My first post doubling!

Welcome to the forum Harry!

Welcome Harry!
I takes a big man to apologise. I know. I am big & I apologise a lot, especially to my wife. :D Welcome to the Schrade Thread......or....er...something. Just a bunch of ol' fogies that love knives from Elllenville, (and maybe a couple younger fogies).

Any how.....speaking of chinee stuff......there is at least one ebay seller that seems to have a sense of integrity......He referred to a chinee copy of a Golden Spike as a "Great Repo."

At least he is upfront about where they come from........maybe a little short on taste.

So much for my evening rant....gotta' take my wife out to dinner so I don't have to apologise to her..........again.

I found this the other day while checking out what was coming out of China in the Spyderco site. Someone posted about the sorry blade steel, and someone else responded that it was NOT 440:

.....When he actually started cutting with it the edge literally crumbled. I've never seen chipping as bad as this..... there was HUGE chunks gone from the plainedged portion of the blade.. Flakes of the blade steel were laying in the vicinity of where he was working......

.....It isn’t 440C, its 8Cr13MoV. The Chinese just called it 440C. This steel is similar in properties to AUS-8, and the byrds have been tested HRC 61.....

I wonder what metals they are really using on the Chitaylors, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Is not Puma the originator of the "110 pattern"? I had kind of always thought so. Maybe there is no answer.

I personally haven't had any edge chipping probs with the 8Cr13MoV on my Crossbill but I actually seen the chipping mentioned in your quote. It was a coworker's Meadolark and the blade was marked 440c. They must have overheated and crystallized the edge on a belt sander or something because it was extremely brittle. I think Spyderco made them stop marking the blades as being 440c. Those models may have mild collector interest.

I don't EDC the Crossbill. More of a torture test. I've been pleasantly surprised.

I thought that Buck came with it in 1963. I find it interesting that Puma made the pattern for a commemorative as shown in this catalog, which from the text: "Two centuries of dedication..." would place it at about 1969, the question is: how much earlier did they start making it?

here is my personal opinion and gatherings, you decide what it is worth.

buck came out with the 110, then schrade, case, puma and a few others decided to start making large single bladed lockback of the "new" folding hunter pattern. To me the lb7, and puma resemble the 110, the lb7 moreso. the case XX sharktooth, mako, and hammerhead were produced, the I-xl wostenholm lockback under the schrade name deeply resembles the case XX sharks tooth.

now for the ones I like more, the sharkstooth and 110 are by far my two favorites, coming in a close second is the wostenholm, then the lb7, and the puma are pretty much tied up for third.

I know there are a few other brands that resemble these large lockbacks but can't think of them right off the top of my head.

have a great evening
