Tc barlows & mind blowing sheath give-away**WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Hey Thieves...
Help us out here brother with the questions- you may as well - you know the rules you are now entered, and theres an infraction hanging over head :D:thumbup:

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
(gotta go with the 85, more so the 85EO as easy open traditionals seem to keep their popularity and value quite a bit)

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
(I think maybe huck finns pipe or perhaps a long rifle graphic would be cool. Or maybe Helping Hand with a pitchfork in the middle?)

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
(I like the TC because the barlow is the quintessential American knife, the varying blade shapes and designs)

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
(So I can enjoy a great knife for many years to come)

I think this is a great idea for someone who doesn't have a TC Barlow to have an opportunity of winning one. Thanks to all of the great people who contributed and supported this endeavor. I have a
few of these knives so I will honestly sit this one out. Post em guys and gals.......

INFRACTION SERVED LOL, chisumr - your in the draw - help us out by having a go at the questions, your in the draw whether you like it or not- if you win, you can gift some very lucky person.

Wow, this is an epic GAW and I'm proud to be in some great company here! Many thanks to Duncan, Stephen, and Paul for your generosity and contributions here in the traditionals forum, and thanks also to the regulars here. You make this place very special indeed.

This will be my small addition to the prize pool, and we'll call it "4th Place". It is a leather knife slip that will fit your TC Barlow or other medium sized pocket knife and protect it from coin and key. I make these individually and every one is different. This one sports a 'wild rose' motif, a favorite of mine. Added the 'oak leaf' motif to the mix.

(BARLOWS NOT INCLUDED)

This is in no way an entry

as I will take care of that in another post! ;)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

@ Barry That my friend is AWESOME!!! You have some mad skills and thanks for all you contribute and for being in the GAW:thumbup:

Duncan sent me two knives once just because he thought the case/Bose mint ebony trapper wasn't enough. Thought I needed a molasses stockman too. Good grief!

That was a giveaway he put up a number of knives! One was an ivory custom. This giveaway does not surprise me. Epic for sure and so awesome as it's a group coming together!

Duncan. Do you keep as many knives as you give away?

Okay.

Not entries. Been too blessed by the friends here already.

1. The scagel 48's long down the road. The 85 sfo ebonies first run. The outlaws. Plenty of others but those are my picks. Oh and the whittles. One day when no one takes the time to build these it will be daughter after just for that.

2. Plain, satin finish and long pull.

3. I like the looks of it. Mostly with clip combos. Gotta have a long pull too. I like the balance of the design. If I hade to pair it with a pistol it would be the 1911. Same bold yet functionally sleek and contoured lines. I also like the large bolster. I could do without the TC even though I know folks love it and for good reason.

4. I shouldn't win it. I don't want it as much as I want to see each generous giver send them to a home that will truly fall head over heals for it and appreciate it even more so than me. Line we established. This is a special knife with a lot behind it. There are for sure three more deserving homes than my hands!

I want to thank everyone. Duncan and Paul I consider friends and I already trust and support.

Wait FOUR TC's???

Barry and Steven too? I don't know you gents as well but glad to be here to see this.

Good luck to all who enter. And to the newer crowd I don't know... Put some thought into these. These gents deserve it.

Duncan - a few things come to mind here - for clarification - do you mean Barlows or TC Barlows for the non -owners, more specifically?

and any time frame on how long the GAW is going to run?

Just a few things I wondered about.

This is EXTREME generosity - in my opinion!!!:)

NOT AN ENTRY! I will give it away (again) if you enter me in this GAW and I win, but thank you very much to the contributors for their amazing generosity and the spirit of this sub-forum.

Not sure I entirely understand the rules, but as I have two TC Barlows already, count me as a Current Owner.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
Plenty of Great Eastern stuff will be collectible in the future. Some of the Queen models too, like the Heritage Series. Some Schatt and Morgans, especially the F&W. The carbon-steel Made in Germany Bokers will probably be appealing too, as that company's involvement with less expensive countries of manufacture increases.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I wouldn't mind if the blades were free of etches and graphics.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Aesthetic balance of bolster-to-scales length. Outstanding natural handle materials. Fit-and-finish better than most vintage examples; the lowly Barlow is finally getting the respect it deserves.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
There's a blank spot in the storage case dedicated for Great Eastern knives where some other knife used to be - I gave it to a brother-in-law.

THAT^^^^ is absolutely beautiful, Barry - YOU make these??? Wow...... that is just fantastic, you possess skills Sir! Barry thank you when you add up the time of the incredible workmanship that you spent on this lovely offering, it would add up to much much more than the cost of a TC, so please do not say its a small edition - this is a VERY special prize, are these on your site for sale? if not they should be.
Thank you Barry for this awesome sheath!

WOW - my friends are going to set records for "Not an Entry" and Infractions Served.

EPIC !!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

:p

OK - I will give up on the derailing idea and just say:

I purchased one of those awesome leather pocket slips from Barry and I really love it. It is wonderful for keeping a Charlow in summer shorts and aids in keeping the knife in your pocket, when one sits down. I had never tried one, but, so glad I did.

The craftsmanship is outstanding!

Hey, Nice thread. I've never even handled a TC Barlow, I would sure love a chance to see what they are about. Please count me in Campbellclanman! Thanks for the gesture at any rate.

I am sorry that I raved on SOOOOO much in the intro - that makes the rules hard to follow - but you guys have got the gist so far, apart from the infractions served - lol.
The etches are an important thing everyone, dont forget that these are renditions of the past, and etches were a MASSIVE part of the "staunchness" of the brand, I understand that you are answering the question asked - and thank you for that, but I felt it was also important for us to know why Charlie puts so much thought into the blade Etches - I personally LOVE the Sheepsfoot Etches.
Another thing is the labels that go on the tubes - this part is to me THE most important part of the origins of the knife - take the time everyone and read these - you can just feel Charlies love and meaning that went into that knife -awesome.

Paul - Wow! That African Blackwood Sheepsfoot is a real jewel. I've seen lots of posts lately from members searching for just such an example, so I suspect that you're going to make some lucky poster very, very happy. :)

Barry - Wow, again! That pocket slip is a work of art. You guys are killing me. I'm suppose to be on the 'give away' side of the equation, but so far I'm just sitting here drooling over your prizes.

Duncan - I'm good with the guidelines you've outlined. And, excellent work on the infractions you've already imposed... rules are important, and you're doing a fine job enforcing ours. If necessary, you have my proxy vote to also impose an infraction on any of the usual suspects that might try to circumvent the rules by not posting in this thread. So if you're reading this thread, you might as well enter. ;)

Wow, I don't have one, but would love, love, love one... and I would use it. It would have a naturally occurring patina going in no time!

So...

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

I'd like to say the #42 Missouri Trappers, being one of my favorite patterns, but the way these things work it will be something less practical (I suspect) maybe a GEC's Whaler, especially the easy open ones--there were few made, I think. If not that, then maybe the #25's with the bolsters stamped (not etched) "un-x-ld".

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I have a #73 scout with the main blade stamped un-x-ld... it is very nice, and the patina only makes it look better. Maybe a "tc" stamp (or something to that effect) as opposed to an etching which disappears with use/patina.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

Love the bolster, no end cap, and the clean, simple design. Whether saw-cut bone, jigged bone, or ebony--those are my favorites. Either clip or spear blades are fine, but long-pulls with the match strike design within them would be perfect.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

I want to win so I can own one, so I can use one; however, I think anyone who has not yet been lucky enough to own one should win one...

There are lots of deserving, good folks here--good luck to all! And thanks so much to the kind and generous folks who put this GAW together!

WOW! The generosity here is just mind blowing. I do not own a barlow of any sorts, in fact the only slip joint I've ever owned is a SAK. I have definitely been interested in traditionals lately. However, unfortunately I lost my job today, so my knife budget has been put on hold for a while.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I really love the viper. I have yet to handle one, but they're sleek, simple, and just plain beautiful.
2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I do prefer the plainer blades. Call me nuts, I know. 3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
They are, simply put, works of art. Something about that large bolster that just trips my trigger.
4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
Not hard at all. I have been wanting to get into traditionals more and more lately, but as I stated above, I just lost my job. Plus my knives get used. They may be art pieces, but they're tools first. I can't say I deserve it any more than the next guy, but I would love the chance to own one of these.

This is just an amazing offer and am happy just to participate.

I know I can't compete with Charlie's knowledge of the originals. I kinda felt like it was over before I started thinking on the etch. It's not easy. Anything I think of will pale in comparison. So plain please :-p

At you back Stephen, your great mate-thats a stunner you are letting slip away - especially how it was born through Charlies love and admiration of a very special man - Joannes Dad - Stew, thanks to people like Stew we live in our lovely countries we do today - thats what I always mean about whats behind these knives.

Thank you Kevin, and everyone - Barry, Paul, Stephen, it takes something special to add further to this give-away when you didnt have to.

Good on you Primble...Oh Man..I can feel my shoulders getting wider with every infraction served...whew...I dont think i am handling this right -I am feeling a power rush - is this normal? :D

Wow! What a generous give away!

I am not a Barlow fan so this is not an entry. I wish everyone good luck!

Just for fun I'd like to answer.
1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
If I can stick with #15 I will. Specifically the easy open Scout. I love the cut-out on the scales, the Scout plate, and the size. Barring that, the 85.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
How about "Way North" with a Mickey Mouse hat in between?

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
I love the downward clip point the most. I also prefer the longpull and the natural materials. Wood and bone are awesome. I'd love to see Ziricote, Rosewood, and Burmese Black. I don't know much about bone, but that antique amber is wonderful. Something similar to that. The bolster and blade designs are wonderful.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow?
I don't deserve one. I've been the recipient of several member here who have responded to my cries for help. If I won, I'd consider it a sign that I don't have a problem and the powers that be want me to have more. :D

Wow! What an outstanding display of generosity. As a newer member and non-TC Barlow owner, what a great chance. Thank you in advance! Just for the opportunity alone.

1. 21st century production model that will be collectible? The alox SAK's. More specific the models that are made for different areas of the world. Due to shipping restrictions or just not wanting to do business with the North American continent has made these models exceptionally hard to get ahold of. I have been trying.

2. As for the etching or graphic, I have never been a huge fan of large etched blades, but I do think a simple signature would be appropriate. Charlie's stamp of approval so to say.

3. The TC bolster is just eye catching. And with the basic barlow body with no bottom bolster its just a sleek design that is classic yet new at the same time. The choice in blade shape is very nice. The spear point is stunning! The swedge on the blade just sets it off. But I have to admit the sheepsfoot and one armed openers have just as much character. The choice of handle materials have been excellent as well. With all of these coming together into a true classic of a knife.

4. I like I'm sure others will admit to as well, feel like I am no more worthy then the next. But I know that if I am to win one of these fine examples it will be cared for and cherished like it should be and put to work. Being given as a gift from the finest people that occupy this sub-forum would be such an honor in its self. Since I have joined and have seen such generosity and class, it makes me happy to know that there are people like this in this day in age. I could only hope to pass a knife like a TC down to my two boys. I was brought up seeing my Dad use a knife daily and receiving one from him just like his has really made me want to do the same with my two boys.

Thank you Duncan, Stephen, Paul, and Barry for your generosity. And of course thank you Charlie for making such great knives and bringing your knowledge to this forum.

Gabe
