Tc barlows & mind blowing sheath give-away**WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Awesome giveaway. Thanks for your generosity everyone.

Let's take a stab at this.

1. Besides these Charlows, I think a future desirable will be the GEC #73. Inspired by the Remington 1173, it was one of GEC's first patterns and remains among their best. It helped put GEC on the map.

2. Those here affectionately refer to the TC barlows as "Charlows." It's a small homage to our friend and the man behind these incredible knives, Charlie. I think it's time that he receive more direct credit for his work. Perhaps an etch along the lines of "Charlie's Passion."

3. The Charlow is an incredible knife. I have a longpull clip that I use regularly. Its build quality is incredible for a production knife, and though I have no experience with older specimens to compare it to, the pictures I've seen suggest that they may be some of the best ever made. But that's not why I like the pattern. I like it for sentimental reasons. The knife reminds me of Charlie, a man I consider a friend even though we have never met. He's been very generous with his time and knowledge with me, even if all he gets is a bunch of pesky questions in return.

4. I don't deserve to win. I already have a couple, the clip soupbone and a spearpoint PPP. But if I do get lucky I'll pass on the knife to my nephew. He's admired my Charlow before so I think he'd appreciate one of his own. And I can always tell him the TC stamped in the bolster stands for Tito Christian (Uncle Christian). ;)

Most excellent contest. I am fortunate to have a set of Queen Burke pearl doctor and English gentleman knives. They are stunning and in my opinion, Queen's finest knives. I like a handwritten company name script personally, very basic and looks classy. The f&f is outstanding and the variety of scales make the TC very compelling and collectable. I'd like to win, because if I did I would actually pocket my winnings instead of storing in a safe, these gems aren't made for safes.

I own a few barlows. I don't, however own a TC Barlow!

I would love to have one (I keep setting money aside and life gets in the way, what with taxes, medical bills, tires, car expenses etc).

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future? This is such a broad question, and tough to answer. I think that GEC #25 with stamped steel bolsters and liners......stag.....ebony. I also think the GEC cattle barons and cigar stockmans are real long term keepers (I don't own one of these). I really like the steel elephant toenails with the deep stamped blades. These are all ones I like personally. I also really think the Schrade Fire and Ice are keepers.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade? Honestly, I would love to see Charlie's name on a run. I would also like to see Toms Choice, but stamped, not etched! Two of my favorite knives have the UN-X-LD stamp on the blade, and I love the stamp.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design? More than one reason. STAMPED steel bolsters, and steel liners! I can't state this enough. I love stamped bolsters, and love steel bolsters and liners. My favorite traditional slip joints are those with steel steel steel, and stamps stamps stamps!!

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ). There is no real reason I should win one. I'm a pretty normal guy. I am a scout leader for Boy Scouts (been doing that for about 14 years now), and do try to expose the youth to traditional knives, including how to properly use, sharpen, and respect knives. Barlows have been my favorite traditional knives, from the start. I have my own grandfathers well used barlow, that I remember him using when I was a child. I will pass knives on to my own sons, several from grandfathers on my side, and on my wife's side. I have enough traditional knives to use and expose my own kids and the Boy Scouts I work with to traditional knives, though, even if I never own a TC Barlow. I'm just tickled pink they are being made at all!

Hi there. This is not really an entry as I don't feel that I have contributed enough to this simply marvelous community to be deserving of success. This is a thankyou to all the generous and good people whom have allowed this give-away to be possible.
In the interests of adding some interest to this thankyou I will answer the questions but my woeful knowledge will truly be apparent.
1) The GEC Dixie stockman because of its different blade set, marvelous fit and finish. (from what I have heard, I don't own one)
2)I think that Charlie should have his name etched on the blade as so many others have stated because it would give both recognition and look cool (I am a student so looking cool is still important)
3)I like the TC Barlow for its brilliant simplicity, superb materials and classic design. The smooth lines and superb materials make it a truly marvelous blade.
4) I shouldn't win a TC barlow. The only thing I have going for me is the fact I do not own one, but as I previously stated I have not contributed to the forum enough to make myself truly worthy of it.
I don't have a TC Barlow but if you see fit to give me one of these awesome knives then it will be used, cherished and given to my son when I am old and grey.

Boy...I just looked at that-that was long-winded sorry about that folks :o

That's because its from the land of the Long Winded Clod that we've all heard about.:)
I fully support this Giveaway and say thank you to you guys.Well done Sirs.
Not an entry-yeah yeah i know but I already said it before in the "other thread"

This is another glorious GAW production hosted by the very best members of this forum, I have not enough words to express my appreciation, it's a great thing you are doing.
I got hooked after the TC barlows from the very beginning. I had two of them a smooth bone single spear point blade with long pull first production run (PPP) and a walnut gun stock single sheepfoot blade, but I sold them both to fund an Oeser knife. In the past years I owned many knives and let most of them go, being sorry only for three, An Amherst Cutlery cotton sampler and those two TC barlows. Anyway I don't own any now and I need one for a good cause, as you see in a moment.

(1) 21st century knife besides TC would be for me the wharnclife trapper, GEC DE #48 with wharnclife blade would be perfect for that matter.
(2) I am not a big fan of graphics on blades, but if I need to think of something it would be "Proudly made in the USA" or "Real Barlow" carved into the blade like the Sheffield "Real Sheepfoot"
(3) The perfect design for me would be single sheepfoot blade with long pull and swedge, with special wood scales like Kauri or Bog Oak.
(4) Well why do I need one. Besides the obvious, it appeared to me yesterday, that a very good friend of mine is very ill being in constant pain, he is a knife maker that his initials and his brand logo as well are TC (TC Blades). I would like to give him a pocket knife with these initials, as I know it will make so much happy.

Again, thanks all for this GAW, Only on traditionals !!

Mike

I was not a regular in the Traditional Forum until a couple months ago. I used to read here, but really started participating lately and have come to love this place. The people that make it up are extremely generous and (matching the Traditional theme around here) are very kind and giving. This subforum is a special place on the internet, it's so cool that we have people like Charlie to show us an example of a Stand-Up-Guy. I do not own a TC Barlow yet, but would love to. I've tried and missed on a couple runs and several on the exchange. I stare at Primble's pictures for too long... The TC Barlows are an instant classic on a pattern that was a classic for so long then seemed to almost disappear. I can think of no better pattern for Charlie to have set his sights on than the Barlow. I'm not sure I got all the rules right, please let me know if I didn't do something right...

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I first agree with the question, these TCs will be live on for a century until every one has been bought someone looking to use a great knife and they're all sharpened down to pen blades.
I think the GEC #15 Boys Knives will also live in this collectible world. A classic design (and cousin of the Charlow), it would be hard for them to ever go out of collecting style. The amount of variations are important because it gives something to collect. I think the 15s and TCs will be desired well into the 22st century.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
Hmmm. At first I didn't like the etches on GEC blades, but now I think they're great. They slowly fade into the Patina if you let them, or you can keep them fresh forever with some care. They are a delicate part of the collectible and I think that part is important. I love the etches that start with "Genuine" (Barlow, Sawcut Bone, Etc.). I would love to see an "Oil the Joints" etch maybe even with with a clever small picture of a tinman or perhaps an old-man's knee.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
I have been stationed in Italy for a few months and forced to fall back on an Opinel and SAK as my only knives: they work perfectly for everything I need... It was this epiphany that brought me back to the traditional forum where knives are knives and don't have a lot of fancy extras. A handle is required: why not make it bone? A recurve nightmare grind with a serrated spine is not required: so you don't ever see them on traditional knives.
My favorite TC Barlow is definitely the single-blade long pull spear with some kind of saw-cut or primitive bone. Any of the single-blade would make a great slim carry. The dual blade versions with a Sheepsfoot main and pen second are a great mix of purpose-built blades. The dual-blade Sheepsfoot EO versions are incredible (they all are incredible) and possibly tied for first ;). Who are we kidding: I like them all.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow:
I don't have any special reasons. Of course this would be a special knife, but the generosity of winning this giveaway would honestly double how awesome a TC Barlow would be. I live comfortably enough and can buy a couple knives here or there from my savings. It was this stay in Italy that brought me back to traditional knives and I'd love to have a Charlow to remember this (difficult/life changing) time my wife and I have traveled through together. I don't see myself owning more than maybe the two I listed above and when I get one I plan to carry it daily and use it with care. I would love to carry the knife and pass it on if it ever finds itself sitting in a drawer for too long.

INFRACTION SERVED LOL, chisumr - your in the draw - help us out by having a go at the questions, your in the draw whether you like it or not- if you win, you can gift some very lucky person.

1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I think the #48 Diamond Jack will be most desirable in the future. Charlie has taken 3 old knives and reforged them again in this knife design. Simply a beautiful design.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I'm not a big fan of etching and logos. I would prefer a sterile blade. Let the blade shape speak for the knife.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
I like TC barlows because it is small enough to feel comfortable in your front pants pocket. My favorite is the spearpoint in American walnut.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
My win would be the luck of the draw. I never win anything and this would be a first for me. I just hope this exposure opens more knife doors for me here on BF....

Wow. What a giveaway. The generosity around here is amazing. As a newer knife enthusiast I have to say that the sense of community I've found on this sub forum is a big part of the reason I've came to enjoy traditionals more and more.
1. I think the Alox SAKs will become more and more collectable. Especially the red ones, they look so amazing once they get a little worn. Also there is a variety of paterns which helps make them collectable.
2. I think one etched with Charlies signature would be really nice, and in the future could become very sought after.
3. Whats not to like. I have never handled one, but in the pictures they are absolutely stunning. There is a variety of available materials and blades. As to what I woould like to see, I really like the one handed openers with the cutout in the tip. I'd love to see one in a beautiful wood like maybe burled oak or black walnut.
4. I dont feel like I deserve one of these knives yet, but if I where to get one you can know it will be the cherished gem of my collection, see considerable pocket time, and be well cared for.

Thank you so much for the opportunity and the generosity. I look forward to reading everyones responses.

Needed to add that I'm a non barlow owner.

This is not an entry; however, I did want to acknowledge how stunning I find such generosity.

Wow what a great gaw i would love to be in on the non owner list. So #1 its hard to say maybe the 22magnum probablly any gec. #2 id perfer none but maybe charlies signature would be cool. #33 i like the tc barlow for all the obvious reasons beauty, history, utility. But the reaso i reallllllly like them is the passion that charlie has for knives it shows in these knives i have never met him and he doesnt know me but i have read all the tc barlow threads n feel connected.#4i think i should win because i will give a tcc barlow a good home in my pocket i will carry and use and love it. And things like rent car payment insurance etc etc will keep me from being able to buy my own. Being responsible hurt my knife desires thanks for the chance goodluck all

Thank you guys for this amazing, generous giveaway.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future? It's a hard thing to predict. There have been objects in my youth that were so cheap and common that I come across now in vintage stores. Possibly the Case SwayBack Jack in Chestnut if they are truly discontinued.
2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade? I like the "real barlow" etch because it reminds me of the Sheffield "real lamb foot" Maybe something with a banner. Really, anything Charlie approved is fine. Hmm, that's it "Charlie Approved"
3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design? The Barlow is a perfect sized, sturdy, working knife. The TC Barlow is a perfect example of the pattern. I love the old fashioned style of it.
4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow: I would not say that I should. I sure do wish to. I own a few #15s, and I own a few inexpensive old Barlows, but I have no Charlows. I would carry it and use it and think fondly of everyone here on this forum and especially you very generous guys an' I would hold it and pet it and name it george..............

Scratch that: I do now have my very first Charlow! So- no longer an entry

The generosity on this forum never ceases to amaze me. Thanks to all of you fine gentlemen!
I own several TC Barlows including a red spearpoint , so if I won I would pass the red spearpoint on to another as I already have one. The blackwood sheepsfoot I don’t have so I would have to keep it for the collection.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I actually find this a tough question. I like the GEC #92 pattern due to the different blade and scales available.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I’d like to see a stamped graphic as opposed to an etch. Perhaps a bottle cap with CC inside if a Beerlow is manufactured.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
A TC Barlow is what piqued my interest in traditional knives. It was a spearpoint, red, sawcut bone. I find every blade shape whether it is single or a combo makes sense. It’s hard to explain.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
So I can keep it sharp, oil the joints and in due time pass it on to another.

Ken K.

Technically I only own one TC barlow, the other being a 1 of 1 TC beerlow.:D

I cannot pass up the chance at a sheepsfoot barlow though. I have been kicking myself for passing on them when they were released.

1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

I think the EO 85's with coping secondaries will be highly sought after in years to come along with the Queen Dan Burke small barlow.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I really enjoy the days work etch and real sheepsfoot barlow etch. What I would like to see is them stamped instead of etched so that I could enjoy them for years to come....if stamping a chicken or sheep head on a knife blade is possible at least.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

I was already a barlow collector before Charlie started wirh the TC but I really love the frame, the way the spear point blades tuck into the frame, the steel bolster and liners ( there is nothing cooler than an entire knife that can partina), and I think the long pull spear with the pen behind the blade is barlow perfection.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

This is easy. I do not deserve to win a barlow. I have been lucky enough to own several and was present on the forum when they were all released initially. It was not until I obtained a 2013 forum knife that I grew to appreciate the sheepsfoot blade. I really have no excuse other than ignorance (it took a while for the spey and sheepsfoot to grow on me) and sometimes economics for why I do not own at least one example of all the blade configurations.

What a great and generous give away. Thanks.
PS....I don't own a Charlow.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
-Northwoods Fremont.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
-An etching of the actual knife.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
-I like the TC engraving on the bolster and I favor a clip blade.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
-Because everyone should own one and I don't...............yet. :D

The generosity on this forum is always incredible. That sheath is FANTASTIC looking. Although I don't have a TC barlow I do have a 15 radio. Now onto the questions:
1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future? The 81 Stockman. While a "more premium" package I believe it is what the schrade 8OT was in the latter part of last century. Good f&f, great overall blade steel, and just a great work knife. The big difference is the 81 also has the beautiful cover materials.
2. What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade? I like etches for the a while but to be honest, my knives get used and patina'ed and I don't miss the etches after that. I'll think on this one though...
3. Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design? The overall package is great. Size, steel, blade shapes, feel, and the covers that are coming out on these are/nearly best in the non-custom knife business.
4. Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ). I shouldn't win this, but my girlfriend's dad should. He's not on this forum and has no idea he's in the running to win anything. He carries a schrade barlow that he received from his father as a kid and it is let's just say, well worn. Now I don't want to replace the history he has with his old pocketknife but I know he would use and enjoy a new TC barlow, especially those beauties. So if I (really he) wins the prize is taking a little road trip to his house.

Wow, this one is just way too good to not throw my hat into! I am decidedly already a TC Barlow owner. :)

1. 21st century production model that will be collectible?
--I can't help but think that the #15 Boy's Knives will be largely collectible in the future. They already have a cult following, and rightfully so! They're simple, sturdy, BEAUTIFUL, and so highly functional that I don't really see how they could NOT be sought after for ages!

2. I think that a series of TC's with Charlie's signature as an etch would be very classy. Maybe Charlie and Bill Howard together?

3. It's hard to say exactly what it is about the TC Barlow design that trips my trigger so consistently, I suppose it's a culmination of things. Useful, down to earth blade styles, small but perfectly executed covers, the long, slim classy looking bolsters, I could go on all day. It's just a wonderful knife that will get the job done, and look good doing it!

4. I don't deserve to win a TC Barlow in a giveaway. I already own my fair share of TC Barlows. If I were to win one, though, I wouldn't be keeping it. I will pass it on to a non-TC Barlow owner, that's a fact!

Thanks so much to all involved in this one! You all are some of the reasons that this corner of Bladeforums is so great!

The generosity of the people here is really quite amazing, and you fellas are pretty high up on the scale even in this fine group. Thank you for the chance. I do not currently own a TC Barlow, but have had one before. I'm not sure what camp that puts me in. I do wish to obtain one.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

There's a few that hit my list: First run of the #15 Boys knives, Case/Bose collaborations (specifically the Lanny's Clip), Colored Alox SAKs...... Something a little more under the radar? GEC's White Owl Patterns.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I'm a user and the etching just goes away, so I like them etch free.... (Though I really liked the Days Work etch). Now if I must pick one.... maybe make it a fishing pole with a line and a worm on it. I seem to remember Tom fishing.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

I used to like bigger knives, but I've found that a nice slim 3.5" closed knife is really about perfect for all practical use. The TC Barlow is just a good looking slim pattern. I've grown to find the spear blade as my favorite blade and the long pull TC in ebony would be my favorite. I do wish I had jumped on the jigged bone versions.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

I'm blessed and don't really deserve or need one. It's strictly a want.

Now if I must pick one.... maybe make it a fishing pole with a line and a worm on it. I seem to remember Tom fishing.

Yes - I was thinking similar thoughts - Tom napping on a river bank with his cane pole stuck in the mud!

Might be to difficult for an etch though.
