I am fairly new to knives and it can be a bit overwhelming to absorb info about all the brands out there. Spyderco has been around for a long time and seems to be very popular on this forum. In your opinion currently what are the most popular and desirable Spyderco's out there right now?

Also in your opinion what are some of the more popular brands out there in the $90 to $200 range? Thanks!

Delica, Endura, Paramilitary 2 are all popular. Benchmade, Zero Tolerance have some knives that fit in that price range.

The Caly is a personal favorite and also very popular in both blade lengths.

As for fixed, Mules also sell like hotcakes.

Spyderco makes a quality product and they stand behind it. You cant really go wrong - you just have to look at their catalog and let your taste decide.

BladeScout is right! Be careful though, as their knives are very addictive. You will own many, and will love them all.

In terms of your regular production knife companies, Spyderco is high on my list of favorite manufacturers. I'm really of the mindset of function over form. Spyderco exemplifies this, in my opinion. I feel they wonderfully blend function into all their models. To me, there are three things that really stand out to me about them which I'll go ahead and list.

1) Ergonomics: I think Spyderco really shines in this department. Every model I have owned or handled has just been awesome to hold in hand. Spyderco goes above and beyond to make sure that their products feel good and are secure in hand. Some will say that some of their handle materials feel a bit cheap (FRN for example) but they're all functional and comfortable.

2)Blade Steels: Spyderco is always trying out new types of steels. I feel they offer something for everyone it seems. Sprints runs with interesting new super steels. Regular run knives with tried and true, reliable flavors that have served the knife world well. They just keep things interesting and I like that.

3)The Spyder hole: I just like it. This is completely a personal preference but again it's the functional aspect of it. I can always positively engage the Spyder hole with bare hands or gloved. It never gets in the way of sharpening like some thumb studs or thumb disks may do. It's a great innovation in my opinion.

And just to echo what williamisthe1 said, Delica, Endura, and Paramilitary 2 are utterly outstanding products among a plethora of other great knives and other products like the Sharpmaker, which is an awesome sharpening system. This is just my two cents. Hope it helps.

I don't think they are the most popular but my favorites are ( in order) the Military, Paramilitary 2, Police, Manix 2, and Native 5.

Spyderco makes lots of great knives and I have 4 of them. It would be very hard for me to choose a favorite between my pm2, delica, caly 3.5 and salt 1. All of them are great knives depending what you want to do and what your priorities are.

All-time Favs:

Delica
Endura
PM2
Manix 2 LW
Sage series
Tenacious

(not necessarily in that order...)

Get a Delica. It will give you a "feel" fot the brand. Chances are very very good that you will like it. Even if you aren't nuts about it, you will still own a good knife. You will find a place for it.

Or it may become a "gateway" Spyderco.

"Teach me about spyderco"

Spyderco was founded in Colorado by Sal Glesser, who first got started in the knife industry by making sharpeners. After that they moved into their first knives, which in turn introduced pocket clips and one hand opening as a feature direct from the factory..." Oh, you said favorite spydercos.

Military, delicate wave or zdp189, police g10. If you are constantly whittling or whatever, a native probably is more comfortable, but the named are the ones I like best.

This is good advice. The Delica was my first Spydie and it represented the company well.

If you want something smaller, get a Dragonfly instead.

On a slight tangent, Spyderco do some of the best serrations in the business. Having said that, unless the primary purpose of this knife will be to cut ropes, straps and cords I would stick with a plain edge.

All-time List:

Manix 2 LW cpmS110V
Burch Chubby
K2
Police 3 G10
Para 2 (barely beat out the Military)

Spyderco has always been one of my all-time favorite manufacturers,
and from the looks of whats coming' up from them, I think I'll stick with them!

Yet another gateway Spyderco is the Tenacious. It's a solid knife if you're just looking to try out a Spyderco without investing much money.

I have had several hundred folders, and 95 per cent are spyderco...easily my favorite company.
Check out the PM2, the military, gayle Bradley 1 and 2, the Bowie, the southaed, sage 2, caly 3.5.

For me the classic spydie is the endura. ge!t one in frn and you will have a knife that does it all. My all time favorite is the Paramilitary 2. I carried a g10 endure on duty for years and now carry a Military on duty because it is black and not green since my assignments changed!

My advice is to get yourself to a knife shop and try out a few. I did a crazy amount of research before buying my first folder. Thought I had it narrowed down to the Spyderco Manix 2, but after getting it in my hand (as well as 3 or 4 other Spydies) I realized the brand wasn't for me. Ended up with a Cold Steel instead.

Spyderco is one of my favorite brands. It is my understanding that Spyderco invented pocket clips and one-handed opening. They also popularized serrations on folders, FRN and the concept of the lightweight pocket knife. To me, the quintessential Spyderco knife is the Endura/Delica. They'll show you what Spyderco is all about. You'll generally find that Spyderco products cut very well, are convenient to use and carry, offer great ergonomics and are made from great materials.

If you'd like to try one on the cheap, get a Tenacious, Ambitious, Persistence or Resilience. These are excellent light duty EDCs.

I agree that the Delica is the perfect gateway Spyderco folder. I have many Spyderco's and the Delica remains one of my most favored.
