Here is a link to information on the original: Ray Laconico HWK

I could not have been more pleased with how the original Laconico HWK (Hazard Woods Knife) turned out. It is proving to be a great all-round tool that I am more than proud to have my name on. In fact, it went so well that I immediately thought it would make a great larger knife as well.

Stats:
3/16" thick O1 steel
Ray's typical tall flat grinds with polished convex edge
5" blade
10" overall
Green G-10 handle slabs

The idea was simple: design an HWK that was bigger in every direction. This one should be a brute that still cuts like a much thinner knife thanks to Ray's excellent geometry. I will do a review when I have this one in hand.

man matthew.. that one is going to be cool... i like it..

yoo're making it really hard for me to resist ordering a knife from Ray...:o

My wallet feels like it's about to jump into a cold swimming pool—shrinkage! Great looking knife, great design, and from the look of it, well-implemented!

ahhh matthew.. whay did you have to go and post it over there...:o

JK man... great review once again, of another awesome laconico blade...

Matt, thanks for bringing his stuff to my attn. I have never had a knife I like as much as my Explorer.

I have grown waay to attatched to it. I cant even look at other blades w/o thinking that mine is better. It really has ruined me on knives in this size. Then I see this and think...Hmm. I really like that one. BUT- My explorer is still too new and awesome to drift away from just yet........yet.

It is a bit shorter in overall length and thinner (3/16" vs. 1/4"). The blade on the Explorer is also a bit taller.

They look close in size but the Explorer feels a bit bigger. Also, each knife I make will be a little different. I don't use templates or anything to make my knives. I pretty much just eyeball it. Here's a 4" HWK that I just finished for a forum member.. He wanted a 4" blade with 3/16" stock so I made the blade just a little taller than if I would have used 1/8" stock.

Wow, Ray knocks another one out of the park. I'd love to pack any of the knives pictured with me on a hike or backpacking trip.
