Ted Nugent on UK knife crime

Hmm.. Yeah, right..

Unfortunatley us Brits don't have such a strong movement for the arming of our citizens.. If those in charge thought the way to an easy election victory was the legalising of weapons, we'd all be carrying Uzis and Bowie knives faster than you can say 'Rambo'..

exactly. being pro "weapons" means you are soft on crime. and soft on crime doesnt get votes even in places where there is no crime. go around my gated community without a break in in 10 years and ask them about whether crime is important to them and its up there with the non existent illegal aliens in this state.

England, one more empire down the toilet with the rest of the eurotrash,
Makes ya wonder why We always have to save their pathetic asses!

Hmmmmm...... Kind of makes me wonder when the American empire will fall. :p

Not for nothing, but it seems kind of rude to go to someone else's country and give them shit for their laws. We'd get angry if, say, Elton John did a concert in New York and started out by saying, "I understand you people have a firearms crime problem in the States. We solved that by taking everyone's guns away. You should do the same." We'd tell him where to shove it because he's a visitor to our country. Now, Nuge is right and Sir Elton in his fictional incarnation would be wrong, but still.

Gotta agree with you there SP.

Nugent was mannerless and he really should have minded his own business.

hate to say this about people with whom I share 3/4 of my heritage, but english people are awfuly narrow minded. a heavily homogenized culture, extreme flock mentality and fear of anything that resembles a weapon have really cut in the ability of the people over there to see knives as a tool and that criminalizing weapons only means that people who were already planning to commit a criminal act will be armed.

Im sure theyll all wisen up after jamie oliver gets arrested for waving his chef's knife around in his kitchen but a customer gets freaked out or jeremy clarkson pulls a pocket knife out during filming of top gear but until then youll have the prime minister saying things like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvKAYj-X_Ss&feature=related

and for disclosure, I dont think america is better, we just have different problems. I think we do some things better but we fail in a lot of areas that england excells in. I happen to really like the UK and am considering graduate school there so please dont go thinking Im some america is perfect retard who cant see his country's own problems.

That has to be the most articulate yet concise summation of the English cultural problem I've ever seen. Bravo, sir. Bravo.

I disagree.

Don't equate the people''s view with that of the Government and lawmakers. They couldn't be more disconnected.

The media does try hard to make the flock follow though...

It's quite simple: there's nothing left that we can do (that's within the law) to help the Government to see the 'light'. Nada.

Unfortunately with any democratic society the people who run the country are the people that have kind of sort of the same goals as the people who voted for them. sure some english people may be pro "weapons" but if you read what the average briton my age has to say its usually along the lines of "even carrying a butter knife should be illegal".

and again I think what really needs to happen is someone who is well respected needs to go around to people and teach them about knives. look how much good oliver did with his school dinners project. now the whole "dont eat chips, eat weeds" business may be slightly overreacting, if someone would just go around and show people how useful small knives are they wouldnt be trying to make it 8 years in jail for carrying.

oh and phil, thanks for the compliment, but thats the sort of realization that should be left up to the real adults, not kids like me.

What on earth? Been watching too many american teen movies lately have you?

There's quite a few comments that could be made to someone that thinks (and apparantly paints) with as big a brush as that. You sound like a 13 year old that has never been outside of his own country and knows all about it because it was on the news.

Grow up.

which you apparently havent. almost all movies targeted at my demographic hammer on the government, parents, "the man", all that sort of thing.

that particular view point tends to come from fox news or clear channel.

Not really. I generally dismiss as uninformed anyone who tells me about Big Evil Fox News or Clear Channel. It's no more biased than any other media outlet, and often objectively less so.

Im not saying other media ISNT biased, but to get that particular viewpoint you go to Fox News or CC. Alternatively, if you would like to hear the opposite opinion watch msnbc or fire up your radio to hear some NPR.

if I want the news, I will watch local. if I want to be entertained, Ill watch Bill O'Reily or Keith Olberman, because after all, humans just love train wrecks.

The BBC is heavily biased towards a left-leaning UK perspective. I don't need that, that's for sure.

I hate to say it b ut you couldn't be much more wrong! As you will discover if you do come over.;)

Relying on the media for your information causes a sort of tunnel vision, it's the same everywhere.

yes, because my view of england is limited only to what I see on tv.

It couldnt at all be the summers I spent with my grandmother in lowestoft every year until I was 14 years old (my parents worked a lot back then so it was either be home alone or take a 3 month trip to grandma's house) or the yearly trips I take (which you would have caught if you read that I eat at a particular restraunt in london every year) to visit her.

that couldnt at all be it.

dont assume. I said I never lived there, not that I never went / spent time there. being somewhere 1/4 of a year doesnt count as living there in my book, but it is plenty of time to get some perspective.

and I am right. but thanks D:

Some very interesting comments here guys (and some bilious crap as well!), but yes there is a flock mentality in the UK, however there are still a few of us who like to think and reason for ourselves! The governments stance on knives (and guns) serves little or nothing in the fighting of crime, but just goes towards pissing off a great many people who enjoy the freedom to choose a sport or pastime, such as pistol shooting or knife collecting for example. The gun thing came about due to the Dunblain school murders… well the government were desperate to find a scapegoat, and we, the innocent shooters were it!

I moved to New Zealand eighteen months ago to get away from the tyrannical bullshit. The UK is a sorry place to be unless you are a sheep, content to toe the line and follow the man in front… I have seen my sport devastated, condemned to having to go to France or Germany if I wanted to shoot at a pistol range… the irony not being lost on me!
As for the knife laws, well they are so complicated and changeable, you have all on just keeping up! I believe it is now an offence to have a sword with a curves edge, but a straight one is okay (I think). This came about because a few idiots attacked each other with swords, and the weapons were all curved edge blades.

And to top it all, we have even lost the right to free speech! I have just been slated and banned for a week from the British Blades website for daring to mention auto-openers!!! All I asked is it okay to talk about them here (on a thread started about Stiletto’s)? I got a nasty reply to which I responded, and then my post was partly deleted because the Administrator and his buddies didn’t like the fact that I had tried to defend myself from their unfounded comments! I have since been informed by a third party that the Administrator is shit scared that the site might get shut down if there is any mention of anything that is illegal in the UK ie Can’t talk about auto-openers, fighters, push daggers etc….. doesn’t matter that all you are doing is talking about them!!!!!!!!!! Now this really is a case of people running scared… shit scared!

I can see why some American folk see the UK as “finished”, because to be honest, there are a great number of us Brits who think the same way!!! Just don’t make the mistake of thinking that we are all the same, even if the government would like this to be so. I tried fighting the establishment (voting, campaigning etc) but in the end I did the only thing I could do to enable me to once again have the freedom I once had… I moved as far away as I could!

I have always admired the Americans for their stand up for their rights attitude, and to be honest, I am somewhat ashamed and dismayed by many of my fellow countrymen for letting the establishment walk right over them.

Here’s to freedom of speech, and the right to think for yourself.

Jumped ship from that particular forum at least three or four years ago I think it's been. Discussed automatics and was threatened with Police action, and received a warning. Unfortunately pandering to some of today's rubbish is unavoidable, but it's taken a little too far there.

From being an ardent poster on several large U.K shooting forums I can tell you their all Police monitored; the reason I'm aware of it, and most other members can substantiate this is the Administrators discuss it quite openly.

They are watching us because in today's World we're criminals waiting to happen I'm afraid.
