Tell me about Emersons

I recently bought a new Emerson CQC-10. I paid a pretty penny for it, but I still quite like it. Yeah, I can understand many of the complaints, but after some adjusting and cleaning of the blades, and a bit of knifesturbating to break it in, the CQC-10 has a centered blade, decent lockup (though the linerlock it does appear to be slowly travelling further and further...) and fantastic ergonomics.

Yes, the G10 backspacer isn't lined up with the handle, yes, there is a burnt electric smell, yes, 154CM isn't the greatest blade steel in the world, yes, it's expensive, BUT I still like it, quite a bit too. The design of the handle is outstanding, the chisel grind is simple enough to deal with, and the wave is a great feature. Even if it isn't quite worth what I paid for it, I like it.

Each to their own.

I'm still waiting for Ernie to give permission to Benchmade to build the CQC8 like he did the CQC7.

I know he wont but I can still dream.

A CQC-8 with an axis lock. And M390. As long as we're dreaming, might as well dream big.
Why don't we dream bigger and throw in bead blasted titanium handles:thumbup:? Though I would want a titanium framelock rather than the Axis, mostly because I'm not sure if replacing the Omega spring is something you can do yourself.

I would advise to check out Blade HQ they have a Horseman there for $140 . The one I got was perfect .... Worth $140 ????? I'm not sure yet but we will see . I think his customs are amazing !

I think they're big on the "sharpen with a flat rock in the field". Can we do that with M390? ;)
I never really understood that. Unless I cut dirt or scrape metal with my knife, the edge will typically last me the day, and I can then sharpen it at home if I need to. Even then I don't understand why the steel would make field sharpening so difficult.

M390 is a mother to reprofile, but raising a burr on a dulled edge is the work of a few minutes, even shorter if you leave it with a coarse finish. And especially these days with diamond pocket sharpeners, the ease of sharpening bit is ringing a little old.

I agree, that's why I think the "sharpening in the field" thing is a good excuse not to use "better" steels.

ive stayed away from this thread, but keep seeing it pop back up.
i own 2 emersons, a mini A-100 and horseman. i love them both, and are my 2 favorite folders.
the mini A-100 wasnt perfect, lock was way too early. and blade wasnt centered. i fixed the lockup, and dont care if its not centered cause it doesnt rub.
the horseman, on the other hand came as perfect as it can be, centered blade, great lockup, fit and finish is just about flawless.
ive owned a para2, and my horseman's F&F is better. i also owned a ZT200, and prefer my horseman over both those knives. its knid of the medium i was looking for between those 2 folders.

im sure there are many happy emerson owners out there that have not voiced their opinion.
guess what im saying is... i stayed away from EKI because of reading many negatives, but im glad i picked 1 up, and plan to pick up many more.
i was not satisfied with my spyderco, benchmade, and kershaws, and emerson designs were what i was looking for in production knives, at still a price within my budget.

I have handled new ones. not much has changed. and reading the problems people are still having today tells me for a fact nothing has changed. all of this is known problems of EKI products.

Many still regard the 98 commanders as the best knife EKI has ever produced. I owned 4 of them, the best EKI knife, so my product knowledge is more than adequate for my quality review.

Ironically, your level of ignorance is probably on the same level as Mr. Emerson.

exactly.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. My CQC-8 is just fine.

Maybe I need to buy some more. You know, give myself a chance to find all these piss poor knives full of problems that everybody keeps referring to...
