Tell me about Steel Will knives.

I had a Mini Gekko. Well made knife.
Seems like Steel Will is gaining traction with their Budget line. Cutjack, Modus and the Intrigue revealed at SHOT show looks good too.
I ordered the Italian-made G-10 Modus at a great price in November but it's backordered.

I had an Onrush with a tanto tip once. I used it for several weeks and was not happy, it had constant bladeplay sidewise, no matter how tight the pivot. Cutting through some styrofoam one day the tip broke off. Send it in and got my money back.

More than likely, but as you know there is always a chance you could get one with problems. I would ask the knife dealer to take it out of the box and open and close it a few times and a general inspection before shipping to you.

We are planning on heading south again to Sevierville knife store since it’s only a couple hour drive. She wants to hit the Knoxville Sams Club in the process.

That is where I bought mine. Johnson City has a Sams Club too FYI. I've bought gas there, but that's about it.

The Steel Will 612 Onrush is really speaking to me right now. It’s a little higher than I was planning on spending but I like what I see at this point.

By the way, there is little doubt in my mind that it will "hold up". From what I have seen, they are well put together.

Hey, so does anyone know how the heat treat is on the modus. I have a steel will bushcraft from when they first came out, and it seems to have the usual D2 problems. Its a little chippy, but I re-profiled it too a scandivex and I think it will be fine. Haven't tested it yet though. I Just got the frn modus and they seem to have really upped their game.

I have a full sized D2 Cutjack and N690 Mini Gekko, they're both excellent. I'm waiting on the CF M390 Modus and might try the Mini Cutjack. Seems like a promising company.

Got my first Steel Will--the new 6.3" Roamer in D2--late in the fall. I got mine for about $65 and free shipping, and could not be more pleased with the design of that blade, the quality of the steel and handle, the included synthetic sheath. It's a lot of knife for $65, and for a multi-purpose camp knife that's large and tough enough to split small logs and do a little chopping, but still light and nimble enough to use like a real knife, this thing is my favorite of all the knives I've owned in this size range, regardless of price. In fact I'm considering getting a custom Survival Sheath Systems survival sheath setup made for it, which will roughly equal the purchase price of the knife. It's that good that it's worth getting a quality sheath for it.

I've been so impressed with the quality of the Roamer, now I'm looking at the new mini Gekko lockback in M390. If I needed another folder, this one would be high on the list to check out.

I put my Cutjack (D2) through the ringer at work, and it held up excellently. I cut up a lot of very dirty cardboard at work, pretty much anything with edge retention below 154CM is dull by the end of the night. I've used a few different knives with D2 and they have held up fine, but my Cutjack was used to the point that it was nearly dull, the same amount gave significant dulling to M390, actually every super steel of mine short of S90V and Maxamet (which didn't seem to dull at all, that steel is insane).

I only own one...the Steel Will Argonaut 800...perfect for what it is...a Full Tang, TPR handled, 0.18" Thick AUS8 Blade made in Taiwan with a good Nylon reinforced fiberglass sheath. The knife takes all the abuse I have thrown at it.

NOT a collectible, but a well-made "user".

I have a Mini Gekko, and it's phenomenal. My D2 Cutjack is also pretty decent. I'm looking at getting a Modus and Resident* too. They seem to be pretty solid for the price.

Edit: Somehow mixed Resident with Advocate. There is no Steel Will Advocate (unless you call my recommendation advocating).

I just got one of the CF/Ti framelock Resident models. So far I have no major complaints. It is centered and smooth on washers. Feels very light in hand, 4-position clip, and steel lockbar insert/overtravel stop too. Good useable D2 spearpoint. I dislike the Lionsteel like trianglular stepped thumb disk(I think the round Emerson style is easier to use) but it works just fine.

I own Both folding Gekkos an Apostate and a Cutjack 3.5 M390. They are all fantastic knives. The only one that has competition is the Cutjack from my Shaman. They both carry about the same and are designed for
Med. to heavy use. I think that the Shaman looses on the steel but wins on looks. I have a hard time deciding which to carry.
In closing, Steel Will make great knives.

One question that I've not run into personally (unlikely with the fixed blade I have, but possible with folders) is their warranty and customer service.

With some foreign companies like Lionsteel for example, they make high quality products, but if you're one of the unlucky few that runs into a warranty issue, you may be shipping the knife to Italy, etc. This is one reason why I mostly stick to buying folders that are designed and serviced by US companies.

How is Steel Will's warranty and customer service when you actually have to use it?
