Tell me about the Vic Spirit.

Very well built. Almost no play in the jaws or any of the tools in the locked position. The way the handles are angled make it very comfortable to really bear down on something with the pliers. I wish mine had a spear point plain edge blade, but I always have another knife on me anyway. I think it's the best multi out. I have a Leatherman Charge Ti with S30V and don't think it even compares.

I had to look it up. Looks like a great tool and one site I visited had it for under $50.00 shipped, so the price isn't bad at all. I've been looking for a tool to replace my original Leatherman and wanted to try one of Vics swiss tools and this one is a definite possibility.

No doubt about it, it will work hard for you for a long time. I didn't care for the knife blade, but the fit and finish was excellent. I sold it and got a Wave. Both are too $%^&* heavy for hiking, but I EDC the Wave in my commuter pack.

I've tried a lot of plier-based multi-tools and have given up on them for woods use and lean to SAK's like the Trekker and Outrider. IMHO, the SAK's give you a selection of tools that are actually useful for hiking. Add a Classic or a Micra and you have a real tool kit.

The minute you have mechanical stuff, the pendulum swings to the plier-based tools. There's no right or wrong with this, just personal preference. If you were stranded with a Vic Spirit, you could get 'er done.

I've got a Spirit S ,2 knife blades no scissors. I like it a lot, most ergonomic multi I've ever seen, and top quality. I now edc a Swisstool, but have the Spirit ready for more formal events.

One step further from Dale is the crunch's locking pliers, this thing is a real marvel.
My dad scoffed at it until I showed him how to set it up.
Not much place in the wilderness though, however I do like to tinker with stuff and
I may need to make a radio out of coconuts, so to speak.
Not to mention some backwoods dentistry that may come up.

It's my fav multi-tool; lighter than my tanks, great finish, fit in hand,
good usable tools. and the lifetime warranty sure don't hurt!

and I got it on sale!

Great tool, I always carry mine in my Fatboy, in leather sheath with ratchet and bits.

Thanks for the feedback . My first impression was that it covers the base's pretty well for a tool at just over five OZ. I think along with the Vic Explorer that I always carry, I should be good to go.

Nobody really want to be out in the wild with only one tool but I keep looking for one that would do it all. In a Pinch.

I have an old style Wave, Supertool, and Swisstool stashed around that don't get used a lot anymore. I also had a Surge briefly, which I got rid of because it was too big and gimicky, in my opinion. The Spirit however has been my edc for a couple of years. It is easy to carry and use, has sensible tools, and can be used hard. I made the knife blade into a plain edge, which I prefer to the serrations. Pair it with a conventional knife of some kind, and you can rule the planet!

What's this I hear about the Spirit's scissors only being the same size as the Classic scissors? That's a big turnoff IMO. I'd need scissors at least as big as the ones on the 91mm SAK's to make me give up my LM Wave.

No bro, they are bigger than the classics but are slightly smaller than on the regular size Vic, they do work well enough though and I hadn't thought about it till I just read this !!!

they're more rugged too, but they are clearly not made to cut long lengths of sheets, I think it's better for short stuff like zip-ties and the like.
I don't think the 91mm Vics' scissors are long enough to cut a sheet of paper comfortably, though, but if you don't have full sized scissors handy, it's clear that you'd prefer the 91mm Vics' scissors.

Sounds like just what I need. I won't be buying many knives for a while as i just picked out a new Kimber 45 Target model pistol.:D

What cracks me up is many people say they can't use their spirit because it's too pretty! Use it!
