I'm looking to get my first ever traditional folder. I was looking at conductors and I found a northfield burnt stag conductor, sterilized, serial #20(idk if that actually means much in traditionals) its $115 shipped. So my questions: Is this a fair price for this knife? What exactly does sterilized mean?

This is my first traditional so thanks for any help you can give me

They probably mean "sterile" -- which means the blade(s) don't have nail nicks. As for the serial number, make of it what you will -- GEC produces a lot of short runs with their patterns and variants, and many of these have serial numbers. I wouldn't personally pay any more than the same knife without a serial number. However, some pattern/steel/handle variations are only available serial numbered. As for the price, don't know.

Dwight, it might mean that it has no etch as well but as I don't collect GEC's I can't say for sure. However, the Traditional Forum is not the place to discuss vendor prices and relative values so this thread will be moved to "Feedback".

Pretty sure sterile means no etching on blades. If its what you think you will like to for it. I started carrying a conductor and am pretty sure its the pattern for me. But to each his own.

Eh, you're probably right guys -- sterile does seem to have taken on that meaning in modern knives - as in unmarked. For the old folding knives and cutlers, the term meant no nail nick.

I didn't realize that, Dwight. Good to know.

conductor is my fav GEC pattern, great EDC knife.
i think it said "Serialized" no? typo?
for the burnt stag, most GEC dealer run for $91.87 (non-serialized) and $100.13 (serialized)
but for the "genuine stag" serialized, they go for $ 115.38
