Tell me why I should or should not get a military.

Question - I recently bought a Ti Millie and it's off center away from the lock side. The only way I can get it centered is to tighten the pivot up to the point where I have to use both hands and serious muscle to open it. It really just seems like the lock is a little too strong and is pushing the blade off center when closed. Anyone else experience this before? I don't know if I could disassemble it and try bending the lock away to weaken it...I wouldn't want to damage the Ti though.

Have you tried the loosen everything, shim the blade with paper, and tighten back up fix?

Might need to break it in a little bit...my CruWear Millie is a little off center (Goes perfect when I squeeze the pivot between my fingers hard), but it gets closer with time. I believe the washers are polishing themselves and slowly and causing less friction, which allows me to periodically tighten the pivot. The blade doesn't touch the scale so it doesn't bother me at all.

Whoa!! Just checked the tracking number for the military and it shows it arrived in Omaha last night!!!! It's going to be delivered today!! No more YouTube videos!!

No I haven't...wouldn't the paper just fall apart or does the pivot pressure keep it in place?

Yeah mine's not touching either, it's probably 65/35 so not awful. I'm not really sure where it is as far as breaking in because I bought it here on the exchange but I'll see how it goes over time.

Another minor thing I noticed is with all my other framelocks the lockbar is flush with the scale when the knife is closed but with this one it's actually slightly proud of the handle itself. Not sure if that's normal but it may be putting that extra pressure on the blade that's keeping it off center.

Here's the procedure. It has worked for me most of the time.

1. Loosen all the screws without taking them out.
2. Shim the closed blade with a piece of folded paper on the side where of the scale where it's near in such a way that it's pushed over to the opposite scale.
3. Tighten all the screws slowly with the shim still in place. Be careful you don't strip them.
4. Adjust the pivot to how tight you want it.
5. Take out the shim and check centering.

You might have to do this a few times to get things where you want them.

Takes around a month for me to get delivery so when I was buying a lot before, I had to watch vids a couple dozen times or more before I get the knives. :D

Same boat here so I can completely relate! There is no instant gratification in the tropics. Well, not with knives anyway :)

This is an old thread with the fix, should have some diagrams to make it easier to understand & Singularity posted the same method: www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/782294-How-to-fix-Centering-issues-on-Buck-Vantage-Pro

So Gizler, whatcha think?

p.s. You got some Marlin gears in that yota? :D

So far I love it!

I wish I had the 4.7's in it. Im currently considering doing dual cases as I have two sitting right now waiting to go together.
Here's a pic

Nice! Built an 85 runner as my first rig. Got a 99 taco right now I am needing to rebuild the motor on. You will not regret dual cases, ever. Buddy of mine did it and I will follow suit with my next rig. :encouragement:

Nice. I love this 85. It's the first runner I have owned. I had about a dozen Toyota trucks from the same time period.

I have gone through this one slowly since I got it a few years back. Built a complete engine for it last year. I'm currently trying to slowly go through the suspension and do high steer. Hopefully soon. Love these things. It's like a crack addiction. There are 4 sitting in my shop where that picture was taken. I am currently building one for a friend of mine. There's a build thread over on Yotatech.

It is like crack, I try to stay off the boards now lol. I was over on pirate for years. I did the high steer from Sky, great kit, I recommend it for sure. Enjoy that Runner and Military

Thanks man. I'm going to see what I can get into today with the military.
