Tell me why I should or should not get a military.

Update!!

I just ordered a black with plain satin blade from the spyderco store. I was going to go with the black dlc coated blade, but others said the satin slices better and the satin was 17$ cheaper.

I'm pumped to get it and put it to some use.

Don't think you will be disappointed Gizler, its a beast of a knife that melts in your hand and pocket

Does not even bobble around in basketball shorts around the house ;)

Your welcome Gizler.

Treky, nah, I am all Star Wars lol

Stand by melts ;)

Now answer my question from the other thread lol

I hear where you're coming from and I dont have any real problem with tip down only but some people are dead set on tip up. If six extra little holes helps Spyderco sell more of a great design like the military then why not?

Tip up on something as long as a Military would take 2 hands and 15 seconds to open. Tip down when you pull the knife out your thumb is right there on the thumb hole ready to open it. Fully half of the knives in my EDC rotation are tip up and so I have constant reminders of how much longer it takes to open the knife tip up, but I like the knives otherwise and I can't help myself. My tip up knives include a Gayle Bradley and more than one Manix 2.

Of course this is for right front pocket carry. People that carry in other ways might have more reason for different carry, and some people are concerned about the knife opening in their pockets that they prefer tip up for that reason.

Spyderco would have to lengthen the liners in order to offer the alternate clip position, but so many people really want tip up that Spyderco should do it.

I am still holding out for a Military 2 with optional tip-up and a new lock. I may be holding out for a long time, however. I won't do a tip down only knife, though. I'll stick to my PM2s.

You could be wrong :p :D

Hopefully I'm wrong about the "holding out for a long time" part. My reason for not carrying anything tip down comes from being stabbed in the leg by a tip down carry knife that happened to open itself in my pocket during a movie. No idea how it happened, but as I leaned forward to get out of my seat I felt a nice poke. I am not switching my knife pocket to position the blade against the seam of my pocket so unless a knife has a tip up option I'm not getting one.

People get cut from a knife that's carried tip down, they swear off tip-down knives forever. People get cut from a knife carried tip-up, they swear off those knives forever. Blah blah blah, and more blah. Everyone's got their excuses, and honestly, tip-up or down has never mattered to me. Ever. Just have the presence of mind that you're always carrying a knife.

I hear you, and tip down isn't a deal breaker for me, but I do prefer tip up as I find the thumb hole to be right where my thumb is oriented as a draw a tip-up Spydie out of my pocket. And I do think it's less likely to stab me seriously if it comes open in my pocket (Has never happened and I do still carry my Caly Jr. and Military).

I can live with the tip down configuration, but I cant live without being able to move the pocket clip for left hand carry.
