Temperance Passaround

Don't know for sure yet, let's just say I'm having trouble finding it.

Then who was the last one who had it? and did he send to this guy using tracking?

I was the last person who really reported on it.

Enter USPS DC # 0302 1790 0001 9461 9765 in here...

Your item was delivered at 2:55 pm on November 25, 2002 in PEARL RIVER, LA 70452.

The guy I sent it to supposedly used it and sent it along already.

OK, here's the scoop, I have the insurance slip number, it seems to have been mailed on the 4th.

It probably is still in transit, and BTW, I talked with JF, he seems like a good guy, things just got kinda crazy.

Lets hope so!!! I'm really looking forward to more test results!!! Folks if you can't follow the rules and time frame don't sign up for pass arounds! It ruins it for the rest of us!!!:( ;)

yeah, I'm almost wondering if we should contact people in advance to make sure they are still here/there or otherwise around.

Okay, I received the Temperance on Saturday, the 7th.
First impression. "This thing looks kinda funny." I thought that from pics I have seen previously. I took it out of the sheath and got a little surprise. This thing feels nice in my hand. The blade seems to be ground to a thin edge, so I think it should cut well. I like the little cut-outs in the handle. My fingers sit perfectly in these in reverse and hammer grips. Overall, the knife feels the best in saber grip to me, but every imaginable grip is comfortable. I'm going to cut some stuff with it today(Monday), and get it sent out on Tuesday.
By the way, if any of my comments have been said before, it's because I had forgotten about this pass-around, and haven't read very many reviews. It was a pleasant surprise when it showed up at the door. I'll post a little more about cutting performance tomorrow. Thanks to everyone involved in this pass-around.

Whoa! I just went back and read a little of this thread. I had no idea this thing had so many problems. I'll make sure to get this thing out quick. I have been slow on pass-arounds a couple times, and I don't want to mess this one up any worse than it already has been. Plus, I don't want to get blacklisted. :D . It looks like Brocken is next on the list. So be expecting it soon.

Poboy, would you do us a favor and check the list?

I thought it was supposed to go to Manji before you, but maybe that's wrong.

Thanks,
Dave

On the name and address list, I was after John F. I don't know Manji's real name, so I'm not sure where he is on the list. Email me and I'll let you know.

Hi fellow forumnites,

i was wondering what happened to the temperance, dave emailed me a few days ago asking if i had the knife and i didn't, i was assuming it was coming to me soon, i checked the list in the beginning of this thread and i was supposed to be after john but somehow it got to poboy first, either way can you send the knife to me me next poboy? i'll email dave and you to confirm whats going to happen. thanks

The knife is on it's way to Manji since he was supposed to be before me anyway.

Back to the knife. I really like the knife from a practical standpoint. Though the FRN(?) handle is a little slick, the shape of the handle keeps it securely in my hand. I also like the dimples in the handle for security and grip changes. It seemed to slice cardboard well, compared to my Emerson Commander, a REKAT Sifu and a Camillus CQB-2. It out-cut these fairly easily. Overall, I like the knife, but I still think it's funny looking.:D Thanks to everyone involved in this thing.

edited to change CQB-1 to CQB-2. oops

Hi,

I just received the knife and here's my intitial impressions

Looks very sheeple friendly, doesn't look like a SD knife or tactical knife, more like a regular kitchen knife, when i asked my girlfriend and mother about it they said it looked like a kitchen knife too.

The sheath is not very secure, the moment i picked it up i thought it wasn't very secure and after i shook it a little the knife would fall out. I would carry the knife either vertical with the tip down or horizontally but never vertical with the tip down due to the fact that the knife might come out by accident

I don't like the handle very much, when i first looked at it it seemed like it would be very comfortable but it seems that the bulge in the middle handle is a little too big so when i grip it it feels kind or awkward.

The handle is a bit slippery but the overall shape of the handle does instill confidence while stabbing forward. the first thing that came to my mind when i saw the handle was that it reminded me of a car shift knob, the black frn and texture used in the handle is very similar looking and feeling to a car shift knob.

i'll post more once i get a chance to use it

sent out the temperance yesterday,

after putting the temperance through several tests here are my results -

first the cardboard slicing, i stacked up 4 sheets of thin cardboard and proceeded to cut away, the temperance sliced through the cardboard like a hot knife through butter, it just kept cutting and cutting without any signs of getting dull.

next i proceeded to start chopping some scrap wood i found in my yard, i don't know what kind of wood it is but it's a pretty dense wood. wood chips started flying everywhere as the temperance bit deep into the wood with each swing (i assume the thin grind helps it dig deep) however it was obvious the knife was not meant for chopping after a short while, the big bulge in the handle makes it awkward while chopping and fatigue came quickly. also after examining the edge i can see small chips.

next i proceeded to see how sharp the knife was after the cutting and chopping, it couldn't shave anymore and it hard difficulty slicing paper. at first i thought that a few swipes on the sharpmaker fine stones would make it shaving sharp again but i was wrong. i hard to go to the medium stones and then then fine stones to get it back to shaving sharp

all in all the knife is good, the tek lok system is really ingenius, it allows for so many carrying options. the knife itself is an excellent slicer, chopping on the other hand should be reserved for axes. however i do find one problem with the knife - the size. personally it would be too big for everyday carry and too small to be a considerably useful camp knife

Thanks for the review, a quick note about the sheath that I meant to send earlier. Would the next person examine and carefully investigate retention of the knife in the sheath?

If it's no longer firmly held but just falls out or comes out with little effort then I think it should go back or at least the sheath go back.

For the very brief period of time that I examined it, extracting the knife from the fully seated position required a pretty firm tug.

Anyway email me or post here after examining/testing, thanks.

Just so everyone knows, the Temperance arrived at my door three minutes ago. More later, of course, I just wanted to lock everyone on to its whereabouts.

Doug
