I just bought a Tenacious to give to my brother-in-law. In looking at it up close & personal, there simply can't be a better $40.00 knife on the market in my view.

What say you ???

There are some other good deals for the money! Boker M Type, Boker Hyper, Kershaw Barrage, Benchmade Vex, and I am sure there are several more. There are a lot of nice knives for the money from all of these companies. It depends of which one you like best. GOOD LUCK! Kevin :D The Tenacious is a very good deal from Spyderco!

i just got mine last week and i love it! i like the solid feel and blade shape. took it camping couple days ago and used it to cut everything. very quick and easy to put a razor edge with the sharpmaker. the other good deal knife is the spyderco native, found at some walmarts for 40 bucks

I bought a Tenacious and at the time I strongly felt that it was the best deal out there, but last week I got one of the new Kershaw OD-1's and I have to say it is an exceptional knife with outstanding features for $40. G10 with stainless Framelock and a Hinderer lock bar stablizer and made in the USA. Kershaw's new steel seems to be quite good too, it sharpens up easily on ceramics and holds its edge very well for me at 20 degrees per side. The new OD flipper is also quite a bit of fun once you break it in, mine came rather stiff out the box but after a few hours playing with it it became as smooth as any knife I've ever seen. I'm a Spyderco guy through and through but I have to say that in my mind the OD-1 has bumped the Tenacious down to number 2 best value. The new steel (Sandvik 14c28n I think?) has me very impressed so far, much more so than the 8cr13MoV on the Tenacious. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to bash the Tenacious, I love mine, but my honest opinion is that the OD-1 has better steel, better lock, better fit/finish, and its made in the USA which speaks for itself.

I'd say the M Type is much better than the Tenacious because
of the lock(frame vs. liner). The liner lock on the Tenacious I
had would get close to disengaging with a normal grip(I could feel the blade play). The M Type was solid as any frame lock I have ever used and the M
Type is a neat package.

kershaw skyline is also pretty good.

i also really like my new 3 inch volcan knife, it was $35

Buck Vantage series.
Vantage Pro $48 G10/S30V and its all USA
Vantage Avid $32 Dymondwood/Sandvik 13C26 and did I mention its USA made.
The flipper is as fast as any AO. I just got the Pro and Avid this week. I also have the Tenacious, which I thought was the best value knife. No longer...the Vantage Pro/Vantage beats it hands down.
Fantastic knife.

I say, "Nay."

The Benchmade Monochrome is $35 at 1sks.com.

The N690 alloy outperforms the 8Cr13MoV in edge retention by a margin that is noticeable in daily activities.

Eisen's Design is comfortable to the hand and rides thin in the pocket. The blade shape is among the best I have used. The balance is exceptional.

People already mentioned it. Spyderco's own Native with S30V steel is a better deal at around the same price. Kershaw Skyline at around $30 has been compared favorably against the Tenacious.

Nothing against the Tenacious, but for the same money I would buy a Boker M Type/Trance or Kershaw Skyline.

Excellent choice. Made in USA too.

I would have agreed with you a while back when I had a Tenacious. However, I just got my 1st Byrd, a G-10 Cara Cara & it's the equal of the Tenacious, IMHO & they have the same blade steel.

Having said that, Kershaw makes some very good U.S. made knives in the same price range & I think their 14C28N is at least equal to or possibly a little better than what's in the Tenacious. There's also some BMs with N690 or 440C that are in the same price range, too. I have not seen those new Bucks, but I'm going to have to check them out. They look nice & I like flippers.

The Spyderco Native in S30V has always been a great value for the $, but I've noticed the Wal-Marts in my area aren't carrying them anymore, so I'm not sure they're going to be readily available at those low prices.

I have not owned any of the Boker CLB designed knives with 440C, but I'm sure those are great, too. I've had several different Subcoms & a Trance & even though they had AUS 8, their designs were great.

chiming in on the Boker Subcom. Just picked it up, and am now sending back my BM 930 because i like this one more....

that speaks for itself.

Hard to beat... but Byrds, Buck Vantage series, Spydie native, and Kershaw Skyline are right up there!

I think so. Actually of all the sub-40$ knives I' ve tried (quite a few) the Tenacious is my favorite, by far.
