Terminology, Perception, and Reality

I used my ZT 0551 (or the 0550...I forget which) along with a long flat bladed screwdriver to pry the wood veneer off a large coffee table, as the veneer had warped from storage in a damp environment.
The knife was great for scraping all the old glue off afterwards. :)
I don't generally go harder than that with a folder. Sure, I'll also cut the occasional copper wire, but mostly it's going to be used on paper, boxes, staples (the regular, paper stapling type) and the ocassional wood and rope when I get camping time.

I get the feeling that there are a few knife nuts who were never introduced to Primitive Pete in high school shop class...

I won't go into details but I have stabbed a pickup rear quarter panel multiple times with my 550. All that did was barely warp the edge 1/8" from the tip. Tip still easily penetrates cardboard with ease and the edge warping is all but gone. The amazing the is the knife still opens butter smooth and the lockup is solid no play at all. Pretty sure this is bordering "abuse" hard use but it took it all in stride. Amazing thing was I testing it right after and the warping near tip still cut cardboard and paper with ease. Wonder how this would hold up to the feral hogs?;)

Have you ever seen what a feral hog can do to a pickup?:D

No but I would put money on one of those beasts for overall destruction any day of the week. I've heard stories to know no sane person would take one on with only knife in hand...now an AT-4 and a 454 cassul...that I could see.:)

Lol,I'm happy it worked out for you but the thought does make me kinda cringe.

Trust me I won't do that again. This is one of my only knives with a nice tip. I've had bad luck with my other knives dropping them and of course they land tip down on a tile floor. guess that's better than a hole in my foot.

I have an 0301 and love it. I have used it for prying staples put of pine. That is about the hardest use it has seen. Other than that it goes through cardboard like butter.

I'm about to pick up an 0400 Scavenger, well as soon as the owner of my LGS gets back from lunch anyway, lol.

I never saw this thread. I use my 0301 pretty good, I have a lanyard on it to extend my grib when chopping. Ill use it to chop branches 2-3 inches thick, Ive used it, along with my hands to pull out a stump, Ive scrapped parts of houses, opened the bar oil cap and fuel tank on my Stihl, batoned kindling. I think thats hard use

Yea I almost forgot I use mine to chop through vines that creep onto my walkway leading to my house. I don't know if you've ever tried to cut vines, but the ones I have are about the thickness of paracord and are SUPER tough. I always wondered how Tarzan could swing on vines until i tried to break one with my hands. You can't do it!

I dont think we got any vines like that around here. Got black berries and I have cut down lots of them, but its an easy cut.
