Testing Edge Angle.

I just tried dropping wax from candle on edge stick in the wood. Wood need to be oiled first (olive oil). The I drop wax from the candle making sure I have enough of it from both sides.

Then, in a minute or so when it solidify, I cut it out, gently take blade of (lowering handle from other side so blade get lifted slowly and without shaking). Shake wax off - not a problem from oiled wood.

Here result:

As you may see this time angle is over 30 degree - 32 or something. Looks like clay does stick to edge and get result angle smaller.

I'll do more tests...

Thanks, Vassili.

That looks like +/- 30 degrees to me. What's with all the accusations about distorting results though

Nozh was caught lying in another thread and this thread is an attempt to save face by providing falsified proof to defend his lies.

nozh2002: That looks fantastic. Good job. The wax worked well.

when did all this go down? i've always though nozh was a little eccentric, but results always seemed pretty legit.

he entered a thread just to BS about his results that had nothing to do with the meaning of the thread. Then he posted pics of the knife, and he claimed an edge angle of 30 degrees, but in fact it was less than 20, so here he is trying to better is measurement taking. Fact is that the edges he posted earlier are all about 5-6 degrees sharper than what he claims, so he's got to go back and rething his measurement thing.

I never lie - what for? I may be wrong, but then I have no problem to admit it. I have some personal "fan club" here, but they are all in my ignore list - I have no idea what they came up with (and have no desire to know - it is usually quite ugly).

Here I like to develop clear and simple method to measure edge angle. I rather ask everybody to focus on test itself that on my humble person.

It is easyer and probably some sort of fun to pick on someone and chase him from thread to thread, but I have no interest to do this kind of things. To me it is more fun to make something useful then exercise aggression with one or other excuse. So lets focus on edge angle, please.

Thanks, Vassili.

Then use what everybody use during brainstorming and say "What if" rather that "I like you to do". Simple rule which will keep you in brainstorming session. But honestly you indeed throwing out important bits of information to maintain an accurate test environment. Just throw it bit softer :)

Thanks, Vassili.

I never said "I like you to do" in all of my statements I said If now last time i checked If isnt a command word I was merely sharing my ideas. You decided to take them as me ordering you around....

OK here the video of how I remove blade out from mold:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11aCxkP8av0

As you may see no deformation during blade goinf out as well as when mold getting of wood base.

And this is that mold of Busse MS with factory edge - looks like 35 degree:

Thanks, Vassili.

on my screen, I measure it out to 32 degrees., Again showing that his measurements are wrong;)

So in this case he's gotten more accurate.

oh, and would you say that the quote in my signature is HUMBLE

I get 35 degrees, the primary and the edge are both in the mold (or some convexity). On my screen, the mold is almost 70mm long, but the edge is around 25mm before the angle changes.

Sorry, my bad - you did not sad "I like you to do". Let me ask you to use "What if" rather then "I like to see" - this way I will feel more comfortable this way.

Thanks, Vassili.

hardheart said it better than I could.....thank you...:)

On the MS edge is way smaller then on GW - edge is actully first 1/3 of length on that picture - it is easy to see on that video. So I measure edge and it is 35 degree may be 36 - you can do it yourself.

Thanks, Vassili.

Im sorry Vassili your comfort is not my concern. I am not going to tailor my language to you just so you "feel more comfortable". I do not presume to tell any adult what to do or what to say. I will continue to say what I have to say in the way it comes most naturally to me. If or when I do actually start ordering people around Please call me on it.

Also in all of my past posts "What if" would ruin the sentence structure and not make any damn bit of sense.

have any of you analyzing Noz's pics figured something out? I think we have just figured out how to measure edge angle the best way. Take a closeup pic of the edge and blow it up until we can stick a protractor on the screen

even cliff is laughing at this test: SEE!

sorry for bring cliff back up from the dead, but it is so appropriate on this thread. :D no more pics of him.
