Testing my lightbox. Comments?

Mete I guess you're right. I took some photos of two knives together. It was harder that I thought. To control highlights and shadows was tough, but to adjust exposure good for both was pita... My first knife is etched and the mini knife is mirror polished. BTW I guess this background went well for this shot, do you think??

How does this kind of background looks for solo shot? I dont like it personally, what kind of background would contrast with this knife?
I wont ask these for each photo I take :) but really I want to make it right for once thats all...

Awww, cute kitty. Is Empathy a Norwegian Forest cat? Looks a lot like a maine coon cat which is why i ask, and norwegian forest cats are the closet european domestic cat that I know of.

This thread is great because i need to make myself some sort of light box to take pictures with =)

Highly reflective surfaces like polished steel are quite difficult to photograph ! It's tough starting out with that .But it brings you through the learning curve quickly !! Everything else will be easy.
The photo on the left is fine .The black pictographs aren't distracting like the previous ones. The second one is not an 'art ' photo .I does however make the knife seem lost as there is so much space around it.It needs cropping.

Justin, it is a Norwegian Forest cat, she is the smartest cat I've ever seen (I've had about 20 :) ).
Mete thanks for your response, I'll work on the setup more but I'm beginning to understand the methodology and notion - after about 1000 photo shots in 2 days, I had enough for this week I guess, time to return to knifemaking....
All kind sirs, thanks for inputs and suggestions. Maybe I'll be able to take some decent photos in future, at least I started from somewhere :)

I forget who it was, perhaps Coop, who said it, but if you can find a wallpaper sampler, they make great background for knife photos.

and yeah, Maine coon cats and Norwegian forest cats are i believe the same breed, and they're wicked smart, smartest cats I've ever met =) Large and long lived too.

I like them better already. Colors are more natural.

Sunshadow, I'll bet you could make my head spin with technical knowlege. But, I have to disagree in the CFL Daylight Flourescents. I (we?) have seen a gazillion 3200k knife images that the user didn't know how to post process to correct them.

For basic shots, whatever metamerism issues there are (geez, I have NO idea what you are talking about!) the beginning user will take a much better shot with the CFL's. The OP just proved that in this post. I think he needs to keep it simple.

Coop

Y'got me on the CFLs Coop.
When I look at their spectral energy distribution it's a mess, with spikes and holes but the digital camera adjusted reasonably well to it. I think you're right on with the Keep It Simple.

Someday I'd like to meet you Coop, I have been looking at your work for years!

Illuminant Metameric failure is actually the technical term for what I was referring to
here's the wikipedia
