Testing the Waters...

KDCKnives and Justin,

Sorry for not responding sooner, I think this forums server had some problems because I couldn't get on. I really don't know how to respond, nobody has ever made an offer like that. I'm speechless...Which is scary in itself. I don't know how to say yes without sounding like a moocher:o But I would be a fool to turn down that opportunity, so yes, I would be eternally grateful for the gesture. Just let me know what you need from me.

Thanks guy's

Jeff

If you want, I will scrounge around my shop and see if I can put together a few things to send your way that might make it a little easier for you to get going. I have a lot of related stuff that I will probably never use, and am running out of places to stash it. I have a piece of ATS-34 stainless that must be 17 years old, left over from my earliest knifemaking days. I would be glad to send that to you since I don't use stainless anymore, but I need to check first to see if it is soft enough to file, seems like I have a tickling memory of blunted hacksaw blades and having to use cutoff wheels to take a piece off the bar. I have enough exotic wood grip material to become a dealer...

My wife and I send care packages to deployed troops pretty regularly, so this would be easy for me to do, just another package going out.
Justin,

Thank you for the generous offer, could you PM or email me your email address so I can give any details you might need.

Thanks

Jeff

Will do a little later this evening, I am going to grab what shop time I can first. I did do some digging around and found that piece of ATS-34. It also occurred to me that you are going to have to figure out a way to deal with dust when shaping handles, with almost any material you might use. Some are worse than others, so you might start putting some thought/research into that. I'll send an email in a bit.

Jeff,

I've been given a lot of great stuff on this forum - it's about time to pass some on, and I can't imagine a better choice than a military man. e-mail sent to your ARRL account.

You guy's are really unbeleivable, thank you. I will try and reimburse you all for postage at least, it won't be until next month but I'll make it happen as best I can. Though I gotta say that it seems like I'm attracting a ton of attention and now I'll really be under the gun to produce some masterpiece. I'm afraid I am going to let a few people down with the first few attempts. But then again I've surprised myself in other areas. I just wanted to forewarn anyway. Thanks everyone.

Emails will go out later this morning when I get back home.

It can't be any worse than when I turned my first knife project into a huge WIP that spanned a few months and had something like 7K + views to it.

We have seen lots of first knives, including our own (still have mine and it's pretty ugly). Being a free member, I can't even post pics here so most of the folks here have never seen any of my work anyway.

Not sure. Before I became a paid member I posted all my pics via photobucket. Just copy and paste the

Hey Guy's,

Pressing forward, I think I found the bench that will work for me and what little space I have. Nathan Burgess just added this bench in his workshop and he told me he got it for a deal at Harbor Freight. I just need to see if the deal will come around again. Here is the URL to the bench:

Harbor Freight Bench

It seems to have room to mount a drill press, a vice, and maybe a grinder in the future. It's 60" wide so it'll provide a good workspace. Do you think this will fit the bill initially?

Thanks guy's

Jeff
