Texas Knife Law - Current Session (R84 - 2015) Proposed Knife Laws

HB 3884, Knife Rights' Comprehensive Knife Ban Repeal Bill has been passed by the House and will now head to the Senate to join HB 905, Knife Rights' Knife Law Preemption bill.

Excellent. Does Todd have any indications from the Senate Criminal Jurisprudence committee on their feelings toward the bills?

Both HB 905 and HB 3884 have been passed out of the Criminal Justice committee unanimously with a favorable recommendation and both have been placed on the Local and Consent Calendar. Keep your fingers crossed there are no hiccups and let's keep this quiet, no need to bring any attention to these bills at this point. Thanks to everyone who called and emailed, it all helped in bringing these bills up for a vote.

Glad to hear it. I was a little nervous after the events in Waco last weekend.

Status update: Both 3884 and 905 appeared on the Senate Regular Business Calendar for today, Sunday, 24 May. The Senate was not scheduled to reconvene until 1800 so we won't know until tomorrow how the vote fell out.

Not exactly... That is the list of all the bills remaining to be acted upon, not those that will be voted on today. Still hoping for sooner rather than later, but not today. Todd is still in Austin, still at the capitol, still working on getting these finished.

Thanks for the correction. I thought that since it was posted on today's calendar that meant that's what they were covering tonight.

Please thank Todd for his work.

HB 905, the pre-emption bill, was placed on the "Local & Uncontested Calendar" for consideration tomorrow, Tuesday, 26 May.

Hopefully, 3884 will soon follow.

HB 905 (Preemption) passed 31-0. Still waiting and keeping fingers crossed on 3884.

CHANGE OF PLANS: CALL NOW! Knife Rights' lobbyist just found out that Chairman Whitmire withdrew HB 3884 from the Local and Uncontested Calendar after it passed his committee unanimously! This is a political dirty trick he's pulled and you need to tell him to get the bill heard right away. The Texas Senate will be working until midnight local time and tomorrow afternoon so there's plenty of time to call. CALL NOW and ask Chairman John Whitmire to request a floor vote on HB 3884 ASAP!

HB 3884 would repeal the ban on "illegal knives" in Texas.

Dan Patrick's office is closed but I left a message. John Whitmire has someone answering the phones.
