TGLB in competition finish, or naked and buff, a great way to go through life!

If I get a second TGLB, I'm torn between black/tan G10 and CF, tan canvas with black finish, black canvas with CF or black paper with CF. That being said I'm also been wanting a Custom Shop NMSFNO as well. Oh decisions, decisions.

What's the old saying...

"Life's a bi__, and they you... buy more INFI" ;)

So here's a question....

What does the CF look like when used? I've seen all the finishes when they have some wear on them...except CF.

Is this going to be a user for you?

Thanks

What a great looking knife. Fantastic Neked blade!

I think you are going to start a rush of requests for more naked from the shop!

Well, this is my quandry, i was originally planning to make the R6 the user in this space, and make this a safe queen for investment or bugout. But now i'm thinking that this just craves to be used. Really. It has such an industrial beauty that i want to go make it work for me.

So, while i don't have a lot of time right now, i think i'll be back with some user pics before too long ;) And i think this is gonna be that user.

that was one weird double post... was trying to correct my spelling of quandary

Hey, they should give me a commission or something, since i think this is really just escaping having to coat the blade ;)

In any case, i'd actually pay extra for it if i had to.

Oh ok, this will be my SHTF knife. Well...either this or my CS Gurhka Kukri...depending on the situation.

But before I use mine I want to see someone else who's used theirs with this finish. I think there are only a handful of us here...who will it be?? :)

Well, do you count using as cutting through a car door? or chopping mistletoe out of a palo verde? Cause i won't be camping soon, so i won't be doing much chopping or batoning. It's too hot for rattlers, so i won't be doing any beheading. And i don't really want to cut up my mini... so it might be some basic landscaping this weekend ;)

we'll see.

But i was thinking... INFI is pretty hard.. 58 to 60 if i remember. It shouldn't show much wear compared to a coated blade, and it won't be as noticeable on the natural finish as a satin or DC finish. I'm thinking, it might be the perfect finish for a non-salt water user.

Actually I think I read something on CF that said, although the entire surface area is exposed, unless you leave it soaking in sea water for an extended period of time it shouldn't do much damage. Not sure if anyone can verify that.

I hope not... i'm counting on using the heck out of this and selling it for a profit in 2 years...

NOT!

Really, i think this, and my 300 year old wakisashi will be buried with me.

The hell razor and Sasquatch in the comp finish tended to stain, patina, and have decarb blotches with use. Looks fantistic new though......

Any of that translate to "rust" or "damage"? I know patina can be a healthy thing...but otherwise??

Thanks

Interesting. I would have thought the hollow grind would have taken out more of the milling marks. Overall it looks pretty sweet. Anyone else got any photos ?

These are where i got the idea...

Yeah, it really looks like the "divots" came after the millng, or the blank was formed with the hollow grind. Maybe Jerry or someone could jump in and explain?

I refused to order one until I found out it could be ordered in CF.
Mine showed up the same day as the OP's with the same combo if that is Black Paper.
It is not the same as the "OLD" competition finish and does not start rusting while you are looking at it when there are one or more clouds in the sky. (This is 2012, not 2008, so people really need to let go of that since there have been at least two renditions of CF since then without that issue.)
In fact, it didn't rust after chopping, splitting or trimming very wet weeds for me the day it arrived. :D
It is double cut on the spine/handle area, but shinier on both sides of the blade for a very unique look.
The TGLB doesn't chop as well as a SAR 6 due to the LB treatment, but otherwise I would say it is just as good for everything else, if not slightly better due to the mag handles and increased comfort.
I will post pics later when I can get my camera in the same location as my computer.

Yes, black paper, and i love 'em.

Great to hear from a hog on this... as barely a piglet (can i claim even that yet?), i just know what i've read here the last couple of months.

Curious, what about those divots/patters? It's like they were formed after the convex grind? Yet they don't look like milling marks, unless their using a small meat tenderizer to mill it. How did that work?
