TGLB in competition finish, or naked and buff, a great way to go through life!

Interesting. I would have thought the hollow grind would have taken out more of the milling marks. Overall it looks pretty sweet. Anyone else got any photos ?

Doesn't that suggest that the knives are not hollow ground, as with a grinder or belt, but are instead milled to the final shape?

Darn you retrocon! I keep coming back to this thread to drool over the pic of your beautiful TGLB and the more I do, the more tempted I am to send my own TGLB in to have a comp finish done on it.

Please pardon my ignorance here, but what is the difference between grind/grinder and milled?

As far as the steps of making it, didn't Jerry or Garth post pics of the TGLB showing things like the blank, cross sections, cutouts, etc.? I'm just thinking that may answer some questions....maybe not. Just figured I'd throw it out there.

Thanks

I'd suspect they're milled to rough shape first and then hollow ground on a large wheel to smooth the blade out. I guess the milling marks are still visible to some degree if you don't go all the way with a satin finish.

Just asked to change my order to CF, hope I did it in time. Is there added cost for CF or is it just leaving it without the paint?

Hey FerFAL!!! :)

Long time no see, here or over on GT.

I ordered the CF to. No there is no extra charge for it.

A grinder uses an abrasive belt or wheel to remove metal. Busse also has several multi-axis CNC mills, where a spinning tool tip cuts away metal. That is how they machine the basic blade profile, after cutting the blanks out of the steel sheet.

Excellent man, thanks, I just emailed them askign to change my order. I placed my order just a couple days ago so I hope there's still time to get mine naked. Im already thinking of polisihng the blade nicely to a fine satin finish.

And to think, i thought i had something that, in a few years, everyone would say "Gee, there weren't many of those in CF, they're worth a lot more!"

Hmm... not any more ;)

Oh, well, it's great to spread the natural beauty of neked INFI!

My new logo... "if it ain't neked, it ain't knife porn!"

Actually if you think about it, the CF TGLB probably WILL be a rarity when compared to the others that are all coated. Reason being, we didn't realize it was an option (and most still haven't a clue since it's not listed on their company page) until reeaaallly late in that game. Now by the same token, if they continue offering this blade for another 6 months to a year....yeah, probably won't be rare at all.

Your vid on the boss jack is pretty much what led me to buy one....was it your first Busse? Is this your second? If so on both counts then you and I will have identical "collections" up to this point. :)

Take care

I don't have it yet. I'm guessing it'll be another 4-6 weeks until it's ready to ship.

Off question here, but Black G10 and Black Paper look the same...what's the difference?

Thanks

I hope you will remember to post the pics. Black Canvas with a CF is what I'm considering
Thanks
