Well I just wanted to say thanks to Kai USA for staying committed to still produce products in the USA. Im really really a fan of bearing operated flippers. And as a collector I love it that the bearing flippers have caught on in the production world. Im just really glad Kershaw has decided to try and keep producing knives in the USA. Because when i see the competition release a supposed "competing" product at the same price as the 0560 and then make the thing In taiwan I kinda have to shake my head. And then realize that its fine that they did that. Because it reinforces why I choose Zero Tolerance and kershaw.

Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with manufacturing overseas. But I always equate overseas production with value. And when I start to see companies utilizing overseas production yet charging Made in the USA prices It makes me sick.

I completely agree. I can't believe some people charge hundreds of dollars on knives produced over seas, but like you said it still is a great product but the fact that Kershaw charges the same price for a (usually) better product that's made in the good ole US of A!
I'm sorta quoting Nutnfancy on this, but I don't really care where the knife is made, as long as the quality control is good. Though I do prefer American made knives.

I buy Kershaw because I love them, but I first got one largely because it is made in the USA. There is more to a knife then the knife itself. Who made it, where it was made matters to me. I like knowing I supported a fellow American and helped provide a job when buying a knife. And if I buy a chinese knife I feel the opposite, and bad about it. I attempt to buy everything US made, but that is pretty difficult.

Great job Kershaw

They've certainly made a huge fan out of me and my last three knife purchases have been the ZT 0551, 0560 and better late than never...the 0300 this past weekend. I have a few folders that cost just over $400 but now they don't seem to stand out like they once did and if I had it to do over again I would have just waited for the right ZT to hit the market. In my opinion these knives just give me more for my dollar than my other more costly folders and believe me, I've told all of my friends they should check them out as well.

I buy Kershaw knives because of

1: The great quality of the knives (Made in America!)

2: The excellent customer service that Kershaw provides

3: Priced right for people of all income levels (Which means I can recommend an excellent American knife for about the same price as a decent Chinese knife.

Kershaw, YOU ROCK!

OP, I saw your thread in that "other" forum earlier today. I voiced similar concerns three or four years ago. Don't waste your breath.

You'll be much happier here. :D:D

Gotta agree, good going Kershaw.

Also to 5.56, I agree with you. I'm much happier over 'here'. :D

I like Kershaw designs. Just returned a Black Leek as unfortunately the blade (new product) was dull upon receipt. Ordered a G10 Leek with the higher end steel stone washed blade to see if it will be better. Should get it early next week from Amazon. Also this about getting a Blur... Any thought on the Blur?

Blurs are AWESOME! I love the simplicity of the design.

Your leek should come back sharp from warranty, I've had a few come dull, but when received back from warranty they're usually much better.

Thanks for your feedback I returned the Black Leek to Amazon for credit. The Leek S30v G10 will replace it. I think the Blur with S30v blade will be next.

Oh, I see! Well, I had a s30v g10 leek and liked it very much, but prefer the stainless framelock version just due to personal preferences. I'm sure you'll love both.

ahh so you're the one stirring the pot over there, I saw that thread and commented. I pretty much feel the same way, saw the product and was going to pick one up till I saw they were making it in Taiwan. Theres no reasoning with those guys tho, they will find a way to justify anything.

How much of KAIs line is made overseas?
What is the profit margin on this segment of the line?

Kai make quite a few knives overseas. But the thing you will see is that 1. The quality is usually on par with what they make here in terms of fit and finish. 2. Kershaw's overseas products save them money and they arent greedy. They pass that savings on to us. Ive handled some of kerhsaws sub $40 chinese imports and they rival some of the USA produced stuff in the F&F department. The materials arent as great but for the price your getting a great knife to dollar ratio.

yeah that was a pretty hilarious thread in the bug forum, some people get a little bit emotional about their favorite brands. I think they are mistaking your post as bashing the quality from Taichung, but sounds like you just like spending your money here in the U.S. Something I prefer to do as well, especially if it's a blade over $150, I think that will be the most I will spend on a knife made outside the USA. And I haven't done it, simply because I have options from ZT/Kershaw as well as that other brand and a few others that fit my preferences.

I don't care where the knife is made if the quality's right. If the quality's excellent I'll pay "made is US" prices for an overseas knife.

I am voicing similar concerns, but IIRC Kershaw makes quite a few knives in People's Republic of China as well like many others knife manufacturer. As much as I do not like it, it looks like this is reality. Not much we can do about this as long as most of the people looking for cheapest price.

You can say the same about Spyderco, just to be fair. $30-40 Chinese made knives looks good. I never bought them, will never buy, but was able to handle couple.

You might be buying a USA made knife, but where does the steel come from? Kershaw and ZT seem to use a lot of European steels. I have friends and family who were put out of work in the US steel business, and there are towns throughout the rust-belt of America rife with poverty because steel production moved to cheaper locales. It is not always about the final point of assembly.
