We watched the PBS broadcast of the National Memorial Day Concert last night. It was a touching and powerful experience. The speeches remind us of some of the terrible toll that war takes on both military and families.
I believe that our nation has overcome its horrible mistake of how the military was received after VietNam, and now realizes that these young men and women who volunteer their service and well being to our nation are a treasure to be cherished. Regardless of how we feel about the decisions of politicians, we honor the dedication and sacrifices of both the military and their families. Always.
As I look up and down my block today, I notice that ours is the only flag displayed. At first I am a bit angry. But then I rejoice, because at least today, for a change, I don't share my street with the flags of other nations. As it should be.
To those who have and do serve our great nation, you have our undying gratitude. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.
