IMHO, it is about advertising. Valid feedback or not, this appears to be a coordinated effort to get folks to post good things about Mr. Vidal. Not a big believer in coincidences, 3 positive threads over a couple of days with at least one person joining just for that purpose smacks of intention.

If someone wants to build their rep on this forum as a seller of knives or as a knife maker, then by all means do so - but buy the right membership (Dealer or KnifeMaker) and do it correctly. This recent activity is pretty obvious in its intent.

[Edit: Again, JMO.]

Dean, the "awkwardness" is related to asking people to register on a forum they otherwise would not necessarily have been on to leave you feedback. That in and of itself carries very little weight compared to feedback say from an active vetted member of the community that has been around for years. It might be simple and innocent enough, but it also seems contrived and as if someone is trying too hard.

Yeah. This is spot-on correct.

g.money7, it is not an assumption at all. Just look at the first post in this thread:

what's itrader?

iTrader is an area of your profile where people who have done business with you - on this forum - can leave feedback related to said transaction(s). Go into your profile and click on the feedback tab. You will see your iTrader Profile there. You've actually used yours as you have replied to the 3 feedbacks left for you and added 2 more (including g.money7) all on 11/28/14 - 11/30/14. You probably did not recognize that as iTrader, but it is one and the same. Hope that helps.

thanks for the clarification.

for the record, i'm not a dealer. i'm putting together a collection of pocket knives to leave for my two sons. i occasionally sell pieces to make room for other examples I would prefer to include in the collection.

It is an assumption by saying that Dean actually made the guy join the forum to leave positive feedback. I think that was done on his own free will. He may have asked him to leave some kind of feedback, how the buyer did so is completely up to him. Not to mention there are multiple forums that the same people are on so sometimes it's necessary to let others know when a good deal has takin place regardless of where it's happened at. Same with negative feedback, people need to know. While it's good to question a first post of a member being feedback of another, I don't think it's fair to make assumptions. To simply ask for details may have been a better way to approach the situation instead of questioning someone's motives or implying that there may be "something fishy" in the works.

Having dealt with him on more than a few occasions I know he would not have asked them to join just to leave feedback. Another assumption....

It is not an assumption. He clearly said he asked folks to leave him feedback here.

The only reason the feedback came within three days of each other is because I emailed several people on the same day asking them to leave me feedback.

He or she joined, made one post, and it was feedback here in the GB&U (not itrader). Dean asked for this feedback. No assumption there. None at all.

The unfortunate part about the feedback the OP left is that it raises a red flag. Had the Feedback been left in the official itrader area, the only people who would have seen it were those seeking to do business with Dean. Instead it was put here and it looks strange. It might just look strange, IE it might be completely innocent but we have seen things like this before that were not innocent. Seems like this has been figured out and is legit but now we are talking about how to operate he on this forum, which some might find useful.

When I complete a deal with a forum member as a buyer, when I am satisfied, I leave them itrader feedback. At that point I let them know I have done so and ask if they wouldn't mind doing the same. As a seller, once the buyer has the item and is satisfied they can choose to leave me feedback or not. If they do leave me feedback itrader send me a PM letting me know they have done so and sometimes the buyer lets me know they have left feedback and asks if I could do the same. This is a great way to hand feedback. No confusion. Completely documented.

And no it wasn't on this forum but I don't see why that matters.... A good deal is a good deal no matter where it's done. Your rep will follow you regardless.

It does matter. It matters a lot. You can't leave an itrader rating for deals completed elsewhere. And like wise, feedback here in the GB&U from other forums is impossible to validate here on BFC and would thus cause a lot of cross forum traffic and possibly politics, which is a problem. If you have more questions on that I am sure rycen or rev can explain.

Yea he asked them to leave feedback, but he didn't say specifically on which forum... So like I said, assumption at best.
The feedback from this site and others matters due to the fact that many members are also members of other sites who can validate the facts at hand. Besides lets say it was negative feedback, wouldn't you want to know that person is a scammer or what not regardless on what forum it happened on so it doesn't happen to the next person? This is the same thing in regard to Deans transaction with the OP.
Bottom line is this.... Before jumping to conclusions on whether or not a post is genuine, why not ask for facts? Dean provided details of that so I think this issue is done at this point. A good deal was made, feedback was left and validated. No discussion further needed cause at this point everything is opinion instead of facts and everyone has their own.

Nope. What are you talking about which forum? BFC right? By what do you mean by validated? Certainly not through itrader, which in one spot links to the sales thread and both members profiles.

I think you just want to argue to argue and you are no longer doing your friend any good.

Your the one arguing. Dean provided details of the transaction so yes it was validated, also others have chimed in and said they've dealt with Dean and everything was fine. So yes it is validated, regardless of itrader or not. So like I said, at this point your arguing over opinion instead of stated facts. I believe this discussion is over... You may carry on... Oh and if you don't think the feedback is validated, don't deal with Dean. Your choice. Have a nice day ;-)

Well okay pal, clearly you are going to think what you want...

Have a good one yourself.
