"THAT" Knife clip

When will we ever use a clipped jump proof folder. I prefer a frog in my pocket, but that's just way too much info about me.

I been carrying a clip knife of some sorts since the 80s and to this day I only use it some of the time. Clips are just an carry option not a must for carrying a knife. Those of you that actually use a blade everyday know this and nothing beats a deep pocket.

I've been using clips since I discovered them almost 30 years ago.

I've had pretty good luck with Benchmade and Spyderco standard flat steel clips, but sometimes the screws will come loose and I have to tighten them up. Or in a few instances I've had clips bent out so they wouldn't hold on properly. I've had to take them off and carefully bend them back into shape. I have one Spyderco with the wire clip and it has worked for me with no problems.

Very interesting thread! I 'd like to see more variation in clip designs, not because I feel that the commonly used designs are lacking but it would be interesting what people would come up with.
The only unusual clip I have experience with is the one on the Sigil and while it is a very neat idea on paper, in real life it is useless. Still, innovation is a good thing and I hope there will be more companies pushing the boundries.

i really like the G&G Hawk pocket clip.
here is a photo of the clip design on my Deadlock OTF (which by the way is an incredible knife! absolutly zero blade play in an OTF)

Two interesting clip designs thay come to mind are the GG Hawk clip with that little rolling ratcheted wheel at the end of the clip. Although I feel that may make the clip come out easier.

Another one is those custom pocket clips with the little tab at the top that when depressed lifts the bottom of the clip. I forget who makes them but in theory they could allow more clip tension which is then released when the tab is pushed.

I don't have a problem with the majority of clips. If the retention is too loose, I increase its pressure. If its too hard to remove I reduce its holding pressure. And If it rips my jeans I try to modify the clip in other ways. My favorite clip are those with a ball bearing but even that I don't find as a requirement.

For me nothing is better than a spring pocket clip(bent metal clip). They are secure, they don't stand out, and don't tear up your pocket.

I have the answer. Forget the clip. just chain the thing to a belt loop like we did with wallets.

As mentioned above, the G&G Hawk Grip Clip is by far and away my favorite. Easy to clip to the pocket, easy to remove from the pocket and almost impossible for it to get accidentally dislodged.

What's not to like about those? Good retention and easy on the pants. It does look kind of crappy when a knife has a reversible wire clip, though. My stepped titanium Chaparral would look a lot prettier if the non-clip side didn't have two ugly slots cut into it.
my spydie and both my grips are gonna only have holes on one side really soon for that exact reason

;) Just glue a clothespin to your knife ! Or button your pocket . Or belt pouch / kydex . Or fixed blade with a proper sheath for high retention .

I've never had a folder I wanted to carry that couldn't be adjusted/modified along with the texture of the knife scales under the clip , to give adequate retention . Pocket shredding is the price of high retention .:poop:
