That knife others seem to find ugly, unworthy, or ridiculous, but that you are personally drawn to...

While perusing GEC's website, I came across one of their promotional listings for a knife they made in 2011, (one that I personally own a specimen of).
I only have a few GEC made knives, they being from their Tidioute line, but the French Kate is the one that makes me smile the most out of them 😁
Right from the get go, the French Kate series likely had more haters than lovers. There was a lot of... "Why would anyone want that!", and... "What were they thinking!".
But, made them they did, and one would be pretty hard pressed to find one out there being sold now. Somebody must have liked them, and, although they didn't immediately fly off the knife vendor's shelves at that time, they did eventually dry up on the new market scene, with now the secondary market being the place to get one, (if someone would even care to spend their hard earned money to bring home one of these red headed step-kids) 😆
Anyhow, Rough Rider, and other similar Chinese made brands, seem to have made about a gazillion Lady Leg pocketknives, but none of them approach the class and refinement of the French Kate Lady Leg knife produced by the Great Eastern Cutlery folks of Pennsylvania.

So, what is your ugly duckling? Which knife is just not the one most of your friends would admire, or even want for themselves if given the chance?
For whatever the reason, a knife you own that just raises people's eyebrows in disbelief when they see that you own it, and amazed that you even wanted it?

What you will share here, well, doesn't matter why most folks don't like it... And, it doesn't matter why you like it... It only matters that you do, and that they don't! 👍😆👍

I have an Ebony #65LB Ben Hogan and STILL kicking myself for not picking up an Ebony French Kate back then. Shoot
I've been told my Douk-Douk is not an attractive knife

Well, I sure won't criticize your choices... As a matter of fact, I think I own a Rough Ryder Sunfish with an acorn shield just like yours! 👍😆👍

I think there is considerable tolerance, even affection, for strange, ugly, cheap knives in this sub-forum (as long as they are traditional). To get at the things others would turn their noses up at, you might have to ask to see any tacticool stuff folks might own. Of course pictures of the offending pieces would not be allowed.

Toothpicks, ugly & awkward, dislike the massive end-cap ;) not drawn to these at all.

Whaler is an ugly and awkward knife but I am drawn to those because of their outrageousness :D

French Kate?? Is that a knife....? o_O
Although I don't own one, I find myself drawn to the Whaler as well, and mostly for the same reason as you.

I saw and handled a GEC Whaler a couple years ago at a local knife show, and absolutely thought it was cool... But, although I don't remember the exact price the seller was asking for it, I do remember that it was way too rich for my blood. Maybe some day 😁

These resin Pallares’. They are as plain as they get but they are joy in the hand and slice in the kitchen. Great knife to throw in your surplus satchel. It’s the knife Indiana Jones would have picked in the grail scene instead of GEC if they were knives. 😁
I’ve only handled a beater, but it made an Opinel feel like a butter knife.

Well ... OP did say "that you're liking anyway" or words to that effect.
I actually like and use all my selections.

I used my acorn shield sunfish to carve some seasoned oak to repair some cabinetry in the sleeper of one of the expedited box trucks I drove.
Didn't even need sharpened or stropped after. :D
I keep the Demo or MR278 on both my rollators. Best manual can opener ever, and the punch comes in handy, as well.

I just meant that I would not be one of the haters on your choices, since I actually find your items perfectly normal and even attractive. But... this is coming from a guy that thinks a lady leg knife is pretty cool 👍😁👍
