That loud CLACK-sound that some folders make... I hate it!

After reading many posts on this forum I have understand that very many of you like when your folder opens with a mighty "clack"-sound. The louder the merrier.

I myself would like some silent options. I would like to have some kind of rubber-inserts on the stop-pin on my BM 710. I want it to open as fast as possible but with minimum of sound. I just deactivated the AO on my BM Nitrous Stryker (wich is a truly great knife), because you couldn´t open it quietly. That loud clacking sound draws unwanted attentions in some public situations.

Is there a fast opening folder that is low sound-designed? ...a stealth-folder?
(I like speed opening so don´t give me "get a slipjoint", or "just open it slowly" :-)

Somehow my BM blue lube makes it very quiet. My spydie tenacious now makes no sound at all while opening (haven't changed anything else). Before it opened with a big TWACK sound, which was great. I don't really miss it though.

I’ve always considered the Axis lock to be relative quite. If your 710 is to loud then you may have a hard time finding something you like.

Try easing any of them open instead of "firing" them. I haven't tried the axis lock so I don't know if this is possible with that system. I usually just retard the opening with the spine of the blade against my leg then complete the opening with my thumb. I use Benchmade, Kershaw & Spyderco and a big +1 on the Benchmade Stryker +2 because I own 2. If it really needs to open NOW the sound is the least of your worries.

That mightly clack you so resent is (in most cases) the all mighty sound of safety engaging. Cut with confidence
A small fixed blade is pretty quiet to open up too.

LMAO, that is what I was going to say. Dang powernoodle beat me to the punch.

Try using slippies, watch your fingers though.

You can also hold on to the axis lock, open the blade fully and release the lock slowly. This is a two handed job though.

I think my better quality balisongs are the quietest folders I have. At least when opened in a simple, efficient mannor. :)

The "clack" of my new Benchmade 755 is even louder than on my SNG and I love it! Makes the sound on opening and closing!

Slowstarter, I hear you man. I like the sound made when opening my knives except when I am at work (office). Carrera50 is right, I too have the SOG Visionary 2 (excellent knife by the way) and its version of the axis lock (arc lock) is much quieter and smoother than any of the many Benchmade knives I own. You might want to give it a try. SOG gets a lot of flack on these forums but the Visionary 2 is a Seki Japan made folder so it is top quality all the way.
