That loud CLACK-sound that some folders make... I hate it!

Maybe you don't need to silence your knife, only conceal the sound. If you fart every time you open your knife, nobody will hear the knife. You could even Ninja Fart, then nobody would know who farted or who opened a knife. Or, how about releasing a smoke bomb every time you need to open your knife. Wait until the panic level is at its highest and then open your knife; comfortably concealing the >clack< behind a wall of screams and mayhem.

P.S.: The quietest way to walk is on your hands.

LOL LOL. that's really funny dude!

Are they good flippers stormbird? I hope my Rajah flips easily and has enough detent to keep the blade tucked in safely.

Not easy to flip open unless pivot is loosened a bit. I use a lanyard on my Rajah's. The lock back spring and detent is plenty strong to keep the blade closed. Seems to work best after a pocket pull has partially open the blade. Snaps open easily from that position.

After reading many posts on this forum I have understand that very many of you like when your folder opens with a mighty "clack"-sound. The louder the merrier.

I myself would like some silent options. I would like to have some kind of rubber-inserts on the stop-pin on my BM 710. I want it to open as fast as possible but with minimum of sound. I just deactivated the AO on my BM Nitrous Stryker (wich is a truly great knife), because you couldn´t open it quietly. That loud clacking sound draws unwanted attentions in some public situations.

Is there a fast opening folder that is low sound-designed? ...a stealth-folder?
(I like speed opening so don´t give me "get a slipjoint", or "just open it slowly" :-)

Dude, wear earplugs! I take it you also use suppressors on your guns but how do you stop making a noise when you rack the slide?

Let me get this straight, you're worried about scaring people, but you have to be able to open your knife as fast as possible:confused:. It seems to me that it would be more unsettling for people to see someone whipping out a knife really fast than to hear some clicking sound.

The clicking noise that I thought people enjoyed was that it seems to give a reassurance regarding the security of the lock up- a sign of safety for the fingers.

^I think the loud snap as a folder locks open can be loosely compared to the sound of a gun being cocked. The distinct sound gives the idea that the gun (or in this case, the knife) is ready for use. A quiet opening would give less audible notification to the people around, which might lead to drawing less audio attention from the sound and less people looking over at the person opening the knife. Generally speaking, it's just the natural human reaction for many people to look towards whatever causes noticeable noise. Just my two cents from what I've seen!

True, there are many situations where I would like to use my knife and yet not draw everyone's attention in the room with an opening "THWACK".

I myself like the clack sound that my Military makes and some lockbacks like my Mini Manix and SS Police. But that is just what I like to hear.

Slowstarter are you married with children? I doubt it ...... cause the clack is music to my ears after dealing with four "chicks" all day!

Consider what the OP was asking. He wants to be able to open a knife really fast AND have it open quietly. Opening a knife really fast in front of people will be what freaks them out. Any folder can be opened quietly if done carefully, even the Cold Steel Spartan, which I have owned. But he doesn't want to open them carefully- he wants to open them fast. I have a Hinderer XM-18 in my hand right now and I can open it as quietly as I want. ANY folder can be opened quietly if one wants it to.

^I definitely agree with you that opening a knife really fast is a factor in what scares people, and that any folder can be opened quietly. However, I do not believe opening a knife quickly will scare and draw too much unwanted attention compared to opening a knife loudly, unless people are already looking. My reason behind this is this:

a) People are not watching you; you open a knife really fast but quietly; the people not watching are still most likely not watching since they did not see the knife opened in addition to there not being noticeable noise from opening the knife.
or
b) People are not watching you; you open a knife really fast but loudly; the people not watching may possibly now look for what caused the noticeable noise and might see you holding the open knife despite not seeing you open the knife.

Now of course, if people are already watching, I doubt opening a knife quietly yet quickly will mean less stares compared to opening a knife loudly.

But, I did consider what the OP was asking for, so I mentioned the CRKT Ken Onion Ripple as one of the most silent folders with a fast deployment I'm currently familiar with. Although I have to say, my BM 921 is almost just as quiet and fast as the Ripple whereas the 710 is a bit but not too much louder.

My Benchmade Mini DeJavoo is pretty quiet. As others have stated, opening slowly can decrease the noise.

I also think that the handle material can make a difference. I re scaled my Tenaciouswith bamboo. The sound seems to be resonating through the bamboo scales. It is louder than with the G-10 scales.

Last time I checked this wasn't the world of Third Echelon and Splinter Cell but thats just me. Need it for silent de-animation of card board boxes? Either carry a Fixed Blade or deal with the sound. Or even better don't expect such amazing things from a production folder and go custom; have them make what you want.

OP here! Thanks for all tips and sugestions. I also like that bank-vault CLACK, but I would like to have the option of a silent-fast opening-folder. My main problem was with my assisted opening Nitrous Stryker.Mini I really love that knife, perfect in every way, but you can´t open it slowly and quiet. You get full CLACK every time you open it. Wherever you are. Ok, you can stop the knife with your fingers but that´s not really safe is it? So I figured it would be nice to have som strong rubber on the stop pin that would absorbe the sound and be much less noisy.

But then again, I deactivated the AO and now it´s THE perfect folder (D2 blade, Titanium liners, aggresive G!0. strong lock). I can open it slowly and quiet or with that mighty CLACK if I want to. But I still think rubber stop pin is a great idea!!

Axis locks as someone mentioned before are pretty quiet. If you open
it fast there is a clack/click, but not quite as loud as say a liner/frame/
lockback. If you open slow it's very quiet.
