That loud CLACK-sound that some folders make... I hate it!

Here I thought it was an abbreviation for my forum name (CLAK) that is often used and thought I was in the Pirates cove!!

Realistically until you design the sound deadening device you will either have to put up with loud or slow openings, take your pick.

Question for you guys who have high end folders like titanium frame locks, Isn't the thwack or clack upon deploying the blade, one of the most satisfying things? I know it's satisfying when I hear my military go clack.

I like the clack. I feel like a loud clack gives the impression that a knife is heavy duty, sturdy, and well made. My Fallkniven PXL is definitely the loudest knife I own.

The ZT 0301 makes a pretty loud report upon opening. Still an audible snap even if I do open it slowly by resisting the AO, though if I hold the lockbar until the blade is at 180* there won't be much noise.

That loud CLACK-sound that some folders make... I LOVE it!

I can't wait 'til the end of the week when my new Rajah I arrives. I look forward to some serious clacking! :D

Wrist flick a Rajah I or II open a few times. Everything else will sound quieter

Are they good flippers stormbird? I hope my Rajah flips easily and has enough detent to keep the blade tucked in safely.

Put it this way...it's psychological deterrent should you need it, akin to pumping a shotgun.

Once upon a time a guy pulled a box cutter on me. He was a good 20 feet away and approaching slowly. I pulled out a ZT 0350 and just opened it. The sound was enough to send him running.

As I think back about the incident, I feel pretty dumb. I wouldn't do that these days. Too many variables that could go wrong. At the time I felt like...he has a box cutter which has what? At the most a 1 inch blade? I have a ZT 0350 that has a 3.something inch blade.

Back on topic, yes I like that satisfying click.

Walk and talk is good for a folder. It adds character. I guess if you want quiet, axis locks are probably the way to go.

Besides some of my balisongs, the CRKT ripple I just received is much quieter than my BM 921 and 710. The IKBS flipper on the ripple allows for smooth, silent and speedy opening. As for me, I like that authoritative snap. :)

Get a lockback folder, then just squeeze the lockbar with your hand as you open it. I do it all the time when I open my Delica in public, doesn't make a sound and does NOT require two hands.

cs spartan is the loudest...

Dunno about the Spartan yet, but the Espada and Black Rhino both make mightly loud clacks. Louder than any other folder, perhaps with the exception of the ER RAO. I think blade weight has something to do with, as does lock type.
My Benchmades (all Axis locks) are downright inaudible in comparison. Spydies in the middle. ;)

I love 'm all, have no preference, at least not for acoustics. :D

the bench 950 rift is pretty silent due to high precision in the cnc
the JYDII if correclty tightended is fast and non very loud, without much wrist movement it is open before you can realize it
