That's it... i'm gonna start pocket-carrying

I have only bent one (broke actually) pocket clip. It was on a Surefire E2D not a knife. Like others, it was a seatbelt.

One suggestion if you want to pocket carry, but are worried about it moving, or not being easily accessed, get a pocket holster for it. A few leather and kydex makers make them. They work just like a pistol pocket holster, are surprisingly comfortable, and do not make it hard to draw.

I have two large folders I have carried that way. They didn't have clips so I looked for A good solution.

I tried pocket carrying today and I just cannot stand my knife bouncing around in my pocket, one moment it's vertical, one moment it's horizontal, keeps poking my thighs...will look into a pocket holster

When i carried modern folders, i had them clipped IWB, position around 4. Never snagged on anything.
One time i had my hest 1.0 clipped to my pocket, the one that had a hole in the clip, and that day i managed to break it when it catched on a chair. Got a new clip from dpx the next days.
Now i only carry traditionals, so pocket carry.
I do keep a delica 4 clipped to my running gear, just to have a knife when i run, and the delica is perfect for that.

So you guys that don't pocket carry do you take the clip off altogether or just leave it on there inside your pocket? It would seem that carrying it deep inside you pocket with a clip would be cumbersome.

I used to clip on but now just pocket carry my Sebenza. Bangs around with my truck keys and looks great.

I've found that some designs seem to be more prone to snagging that others. Short ones don't do it as much. Happened to my socom delta several times. Now it wobbles.

I don't find myself in very situations where I'm worried about my safety, when I do, I have a gun. I also don't use a knife enough to warrant the need to have it clipped on my pocket.

I also don't have those pesky situations where I freak out when my knife fell out and I don't know where (usually between the seat cushions or the car seat and trip). Only time where I find that a pocket clip is needed on a knife are the big beefy ZT-size folders...and I don't use those anymore.

I have bumped and scratched clips, but never snagged and bent one like that. Just so you know, Spyderco will sell you a replacement clip for like $15.

I've never snagged a clip that bad and not felt it, plus it rarely happens anyway. I prefer my knife clipped in the pocket so it's always in the same place and easy to grab. I also don't like when a knife turns sideways in the pocket either.

I had that happen with my Tenacious once. I promptly took the clip off and bent it right back into shape, and haven't had a problem since.

Huh. I guess everyone's experiences differ. I've carried with pocket clips for around 20 years and never bent one. I have however had numerous knives carried in the pocket fall out. Lost several that way.

Nowadays I carry a Spyderco Kiwi4 in my LFP and a Brous Silent Soldier as a necker. If I'm going out somewhere classy then I'll substitute a small traditional for the Kiwi.

I've never bent a pocket clip ever, since I bought my first Endura more than 20 years ago. A few times, a clip has caught on something, but never bent or, in the case of plastic clips, broken.

I'm in my 40's and have been carrying a clipped knife most of my life. I also carry one on duty. Right front pocket. I've never, ever, snagged, bent, or broken a clip on a knife. You guys are rough :)

my 586 benchmade stays clipped in my right front pocket. used to carry it in the left but the 2nd day i had it i snagged it on my seatbelt and broke the clip in half

ordered a new clip and changed to right front pocket, blade facing the back of my right front pocket. this way when i grab it my thumb ends up on the thumbstud to open it. this clip i think is called arrow, not much of an angle to snag anything

Old topic for me but I always pocket carry. I am a big guy (350) so that likely has a lot to do with it but I have broken two plastic clips of early Clipits, caught my clip in the plastic of lawn chairs several times, snagged items and pulled the knife out, and had given up but decided to go back and try clips again last year. I sat down in my wifes car's driver seat and scraped the crap out of her leather bound steering wheel, leaving "chatter marks" down her steering wheel. Back to pocket carry forever.

My solution.

The shape of the "holster" and the friction of the rough side will keep the knife upright and safe.

I've carried a knife clipped in my right front pocket...all the way to the right until you stop...for MANY years. Never have had a problem. Perhaps my carry is more casual, since I was basically an office-worker. I've only lost one knife; that was a special "work-knife" had one blade specially ground to fit the machines that I calibrated. It had NO clip. Since then, I've carried Spyderco Caly3, Benchmade 690, CRK Sebenzas and Umnumzaans without incident.

The KSF pocket slips are cheap and popular, easy to find on the web. The zipper bags also are cheap. The one at the top is a pocket slip by CRK, intended for small or large folders and available from them.

IF you want to carry it in your pocket...no clip...here are three ways to do it...securely.

I find the clips on my knives to be very useful. But I carry IWB with the clip behind my belt. This way the knife is out of the way of my pocket carry items, and the knife is well hidden from view. The knife does get sweaty in the summer sometimes.

Darned good idea. I've carried a Smith .38 that way a lot; Barami HipGrip.

I've bent three or four in the last twenty years. Chairs, seatbelts, doorways, and other things. The knives I've lost have been SAKs and slippies without clips. I clip the knife to the pocket because I keep my wallet in the same pocket. I want easier access for both, and to lose the knife instead of the wallet if one has to grow legs.
