That's... not a knife. (New Kukri)

Glad to have been of a little help!

It seems you have figured it all out, but in any case, you seem to have had much better results:
1) correct;
2) as the blade is in the very proximity of the target, pulling those two fingers will "tilt it over" (?) - that's as good as I can do - will give it some extra momentum, for a somewhat deeper penetration.

Also, don't forget about the sweet spot: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/720287-(WiP)-A-kukri-s-quot-working-edges-quot when processing really hard wood.

(And read the safety threads, that are sticky!)

Good job splainin Doctor Moon:thumbup: Some people put the ring one more finger up or one more back its whatever feels comfortable. I put index and middle finger in front of the ring on most blades but I have another blade that feels better with three fingers in front for fine work and two fingers up front for heavy choppin. It depends on the particular blade and where the ring is placed as well. If you have a stump you can play with you can practice on the top first without having to worry about angles and such until you get it under control. Fair warning though. Once you get used to this type of ergonomics it is very hard to go back to the Western way of chopping. I find myself wanting to use the same methods on Thai and Indonesian blades and it still works but thats when you really learn to appreciate that little "obtrusive" ring:D
I wrote something up this morning trying to explain the snap chop but the forum monster ate it up somehow before I hit the post button. Vexes me out when that happens.

Ndoghouse has a deeper understanding of the fine nuances of chopping...every rookie should take notes :D.

Ndog,

Is the snap-chop anything like the slap-chop? I am honestly really interested at this point what kind of power you can whip out of a longer lighter kuk.

Did someone call for a rookie?
No way man. You talk way more than I do. Your almost 1000 post ahead of me and you did it in two years less time than me. Nothin rookie bout that;) Bawanna talks quality tho. I talk jibberish.

Slap chop :confused: Thats the one my wife uses on me every time a triangle box comes in the door (see...jibberish)? Really tho i havent heard of that one. Do the same thing on longer khuks. Leverage works the same but its just a little slower action because of the length. I do the same action on my 25" Siru.
