Thats right...the tip down down carry thread!

I agree with this. Before I concerned myself with the "tip up or tip down" controversy, I cut the hell out of myself with a tip up benchmade that opened up on me during training. I prefer tip down for that reason.

Amen!

Both ways work, and I agree that placing the knife against the pant seam is a good safety measure.

I prefer tip up because it gets the clip out of my way when using the knife. I got a Rat-1 folder several years ago and the clip made grasping the knife very uncomfortable. I swapped ends to carry it tip up and that solved the grip problem right away.

I also have a few waved folders and it makes sense to me that I carry all my clipped folders the same way. I don't own a Military, but it makes sense that a long handle such as Military works better tip down.

I always carry tip up in my right front pocket pressed against my seam. Ive tried tip down on my flipper xm18 but it just felt funny and I'm a creature of habit so i ended up switching the pocket clip around and haven't looked back since!

So I was going through my stuff and found my lanyard, one that I worked hard fitting a ceramic skull bead on, its a rather nice looking lanyard if I say so myself, I brought it over to my ZT560BW and looked at it..."Oh ya, tip down carry, no more lanyard hole". I hung my head and put the lanyard back. The irony...savor it.

Depends on the knife for me. I have 2 main ones that I carry and I prefer one tip up and one tip down.

I like tip down myself. Since I usually have two Spyderco Military's on me, and both are tip down, one each side, one a left hand model and one a right, it's not a problem. I can whip both out and flick em both open simultaneously.
All my tip up knives are gathering dust, and will continue to do so for many many years to come.

You gotta go with what you prefer and who cares what is common or perceived wisdom.

Personally tip up carry is convenient for me, though it varies by the knife and where/how I carry it.

I really like manufacturers that drill mountings so their customers can decide tip up or down, also left or right carry, I appreciate the flexibility even though I generally go with right side tip up.

I carry my crkt m16 tip down. Its drilled for either came tip down i left it that way and it suites me just fine.
