Schrade USA and even the older Schrade Walden knives are readily available at very reasonable prices on the secondary markets, even in like new condition.

When GEC became too much of a headache to obtain, I started searching in other countries. I love the hunt. Not really the style you're looking for here, but this is some of what I switched to. Much easier to find than GEC and less expensive as well.

Italy:

These all have a unique construction, a solid piece of wood or horn, still connected at the end of the handle.

Thanks, and even the packaging looks like it just left the factory. This is exactly my point, even mint it cost about 1/3 what a new GEC costs on the drop, and about 1/4 what you'd have to pay after.

That is easy to do!

The lambsfoot is the obvious choice, but I really like the wharncliffe Barlow because it's a bit easier to pinch open.

Today is actually a sheepsfoot swayback with ebony covers for wooden wednesday. Very nice knife!
