If you think it is hard to obtain certain GEC knives ,imagine what it is like ,currently ,for a collector/accumulator of custom hand made knives , to obtain knives from certain knife makers . Sometimes fixed knives by custom makers who do not do leather work. Clients do not believe me when I tell them in cases I can get the knife faster than the leather.
So recently ,through connections & observations I recently picked up the Max Sao knives . His are very good IMO and even so from China ,uses a lot of higher quality steels like Bohler M390 & 154 CM ( Crucible) . Max has a hosted knife maker sub forum here on Bladeforums . He has posted pictures of his work. He builds small batches ,I'd say very low production. I have had clients asking me specific questions about info ,availability etc. I have urged ,go onto his sub forum and present these questions ,this way it gives info to all interested parties.

I am also in the process of offering ,internet and locally , Sanelli knives for the kitchen. Sanelli is in Premana Italy and has been in business for 160 years ! My focus on those currently is the " Premana " line ,professional chef tools. They have a patented " Biomaster " material it fights bacteria & prevents it to grow ,infused into the handle material. These days I feel that is a great feature . Also they are convex ground . I have sampled them and I feel they are fantastic,I tell my family & friends & clients ( ultimately all the same ) ,I would not take stock in ,be interested in,if I did not feel they were a premium offering.

At the end of the day ,be it custom hand made knives ,production slipjoints ,or ? The scope is huge . But the amount of products out there is huge ,you just have to look or " hunt " as stated

Great post BTW ,hat's off to you AusLoX AusLoX

A lot of members here collect vintage knives and I've considered dipping my toes into that as well. Only problem is, I've been burned on the bay where many of the knives are mis-represented as mint, only to get it and it's been run through a buffer, with obvious signs of use that were hidden in the listing.

I gave up on that myself, maybe I just don't know what to look for to avoid that.

Here's an interesting maker from Portugal. These are very roughly made, but the price point matches. Definitely don't get them if you are afflicted with 'perfection OCD'.... You'd probably have an aneurysm 😂

Unpolished finishing job with plenty of visible scratches? Check!
Not so great, recurve sharpened edge? Check! (I straightened the edge on this one already...
Despite the rough finish, these are actually ground pretty well and are very thin behind the edge.

Questionable liner lock? Check!
Treated as a friction folder that won't close quite as easily.

No idea what these nails actually do, but I'm sure they are necessary!

Here's a couple that have an interesting back lock mechanism. Probably not to be trusted.

Size comparison of the small one with a GEC 15

Not sure how I'm going to get a lanyard on this one. 🤔

Interesting decoration!

Despite all the flaws, I love these folders. As VCM3 VCM3
said, there is a ton of stuff out there if you really take the time to look.

A few months back there was a community garage sale where I live and I found this Case Splitback. It sparked something in me and now I’ve been making some weekend trips to antique shops, yard sales, pawn shops, and estate sales looking for vintage knives. Dug out the old collectors book and brought it with me on my trips. It’s really been a lot of fun.
