The 124 is a real crowd-pleaser.

Yeah, it's definitely drifting away from 124's. I come to this thread for the photos of 124's. Comparison photos, action photos, or the occasional story.

One of the great things about this forum is how people stay away from politics. I get enough of that elsewhere, and appreciate this little corner of the internet where people aren't always angry about something.

Still trying to decide whether to get a 124 with my BCCI discount though.
You will never buy more/better quality knife for what that will cost you.

That was the deciding factor for me. I wanted a 124, I didn't need a 124, but now I have a 124!

wish we'd see another run of 5160 124s or a 3v one would be great.....
I like 5160 because carbon steels patina nicely and take one hell of an edge. I like 3V for it's toughness. I can't imagine needing anything more than 420HC in this knife though. I don't think I'd kick either of those choices out of my sheath for eating crackers...

Now I have a desire for a 105 too, we'll see where that goes.

I believe it! The 124 certainly is a handsome knife. I'm just not too sure how it'd fit into my kitchen knife drawer. My 104 probably gets the most use in the kitchen, and the 102 and 105 are great utility knives.

For outdoor use, I'd want something for bigger jobs like clearing brush (maybe get a froe?) or smaller fun (like whittling with a pocket knife). The 124 seems like a fantastic knife that I'd leave in the drawer most of the time, which is a bummer to contemplate. Then again, I've seem some threads here of whittling done with a 124...

Just so you know were I’m coming from. I like carbon steel a lot, I also understand and appreciate a good patina.

I don’t really like the idea of a Patina stripe down the middle of my handle. I like my stainless 124’s

I know, they just don't seem to be available here.
they run them in batches. last I heard they weren't discontinued...so keep your eye out when they next batch is made and they are up for sale.....

They are NOT discontinued. They were discontinued as a dealer stocking / catalog item but they continue to be a Buck direct only item. They are made in batches of 50 /100 at a time. Currently they are stull using blades made and roll marked in 2022.

I use a carbon steel K Sabatier basically every day in my kitchen. I ain't skerred ;)

But yeah, my 124 is 420HC and I don't have a problem with that. 420HC isn't sexy, but it's plenty good for people that'd rather steel their knife while they're working than spend 20 minutes sharpening once every couple of weeks.

I dont actually own any bucks, but If I were to get one the 124 seems like a nice choice. I wonder for how much more you could get a custom one done in a nice HC steel & a decent leather sheath. Seems like simple enough design to do, and Id certainly make a couple changes. Imagine that with a a pair of nice stag scales & some brass hardware. Sheesh.

You should price the cost of a custom, also, look on the bay at the cost of a Buck 124 with stag handles.

Well, I don't know what they want for an actual custom 124, prices seem to vary wildly. I suppose I was talking about a design based on a 124, in a nice 52100 or something similar.
