First, some background on the Christmas Eve Gift tradition in my family:

Our family "Christmas Eve Gift" tradition was that when you saw a family member for the first time on Christmas eve and spoke to them the words "Christmas Eve Gift" the targeted family member would have to provide you a gift on Christmas eve. Of course, this fails into the category of get me once, shame on you; get me twice, shame on me. So, you had to slip up on an unsuspecting family member to make this work. It was quite fun and some nice gifts were had and some "doggy" ones as well. But this is the inspiration for this giveaway and a way to honor the family tradition.

And, of course there were lots of "ties" with both parties speaking in unison; and ambushes too where two or more family members would lie in wait for an unsuspecting family member to walk in. Kind of like a "surprise party". One had to suspect that "white elephant" gifts were gaining popularity.

Before you get any ideas, "Christmas Eve Gift" only works for family members not forum members.

This will be my fourth such give away here on Bladeforums.

I have decided to give away a knife as a “Christmas Eve Gift”. It will be a traditional pattern, which I have already chosen, but will not divulge. The giveaway will run through midnight Tuesday, December 17, 2013. To be eligible for this giveaway, you must have at least two qualifying posts in this subforum in the last 288 hours (12 Days) preceding this post. Posts in this forum which indicate “I’m in” for a giveaway will not count as qualifying posts.

Read this carefully.
If you enter this give away and are qualified, you will need to check to see if you are a winner no later than Wednesday morning and send me your mailing information so that I will have a chance of getting it to you on or before the 24th. You folks that are not in the USA, may still enter, but I cannot ship anywhere the USPS will not deliver and I can't guarantee that it will arrive before 12/24/2012. Indeed I cannot guarantee that it will arrive at all, but you are welcome to enter.

This is my way of saying Merry Christmas to my friends here in "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades".

If you win the giveaway, it would be appreciated if you would post a picture of “the gift” here so the folks that entered can see the gift.

Keep in mind that God, the Father, gave the best gift to us that He could give; one we cannot hope to repay. So, I hope that you can find someone, or some charity to participate in during the season that will help someone that really needs some love and kindness. I can guarantee that it will do you more good than it costs you. There is no feeling like helping your fellow man (or woman) when they need some help.

One last thing, please do not open the gift until Dec. 24th.

Wishing “Merry Christmas” to everyone!!

The winner of the 2013 Christmas Eve Gift is post no.33 - Double Ott. Congratulations!!

Thank you for sharing your Christmas traditions and reminding us what the holiday is truly about. I clearly need to lurk less and post more. I almost did not qualify even though I visit this forum several times a day!

In a serendipitous turn of events, earlier today I'd photographed and then pocketed the knife Ed so generously gave me through his last Christmas Eve Giveaway, a Gerber Silver Knight.

When I finally made my way here to the forum today, I discovered this thread. :)

(For those who wish to relive last year's excitement, the fun started here. Well, mine did, anyway. ;))

Thanks for your continued generosity, Ed, and good luck everyone!

(Not an entry.)

I remember last year's giveaway very well and think it's a very nice tradition Ed. Please count me in for this one :)

Merry Christmas Ed! Not an entry thank you as I want others with lesser knife riches to benefit. (Also there's the photography hurdle :D:thumbup: )

What a fun tradition, I'm in.

(Sarah, those were great pictures last year :D Made me laugh! )

It's very interesting hearing about different family traditions. My immediate family goes to church then to dinner at a Chinese restaurant every year since I was born (25 years). Our tradition has grown to include a couple friends' families at dinner. I would like to be included in this. Happy Holiday season to all!

Cool family tradition and story. Thanks for sharing it.

And I would also like to take a chance on this GAW. Merry Christmas to you and yours! :)
