The 2021 Garden, Landscape, and Other Stuff Thread...

I'd slow down for this feathered beauty! Thanks for posting this shot. Green leaves ... all woods are leafless and snow covers the landscape here. Hey, even the Canada geese are gone South. :)

I haven't had a non-rain day to do yardwork in almost 2 months. But I've got these:

Hey gardeners,

Update: I’ve been absent from posting and screens in general, but far from idle … have missed participating in gardening thread for sure …

Some may know that Daisy came to me last January 1st. This past summer we began a life adventure! I had given a lot of things away, left much of my property equipment for my daughter, packed and stored our ‘stuff’ … loaded the suv with basic camp equipment … and, after camping for a few days at the property to visit, my dog and I hit the road.

How timely … in life it is the perfect time for me to no longer be hauling wood for heat, snowblowing , raking snow off roofs, chipping ice and ‘busting sod’. Gardening will find me somehow … somewhere.

Now, we do visit the old digs from time to time. My daughter lives there now with her three pups.

So … our journey to date takes us from home ... to camp … to lodging as fall weather dictated … and presently to a cabin for over winter. And it is not over yet! I have decided to gypsy around the woods again next summer when this sweet, pine-lined cabin we have taken (snow time) will be needed to house seasonal fisher folk. Hoping for a warm May 2022 J … but I’ll pack the tent heater just for the halibut.

Meanwhile, in deference to this thread’s occasional penchant for stuff, here’s some from before we left last summer …

… and from a cabin, not so much in the woods … as I write.

We had a really rare visitor come into the backyard a few hours after sunset the first week of November. I just happened to be looking out the kitchen window while washing my hands as he set the motion sensor lights off, seeing him quite clearly. Grabbed the camera and walked up pretty close to him to get a few pictures before leaving him to be. First and only time I’ve ever seen him.

THAT is really cool... amazing sighting. I love that stuff so much. Bonus for grabbing the camera.

No animals, but my delayed trip to town today (live wire arcing in road) resulted in some good lighting between cloud bursts.

We had a white Christmas, and it snowed for a couple more days too. This is the third years with snow that stuck around in a row, and that's very unusual. But along with that we've closed out the year with above average rainfall both for the year and for December. It seems like it's been raining for a couple months straight, and frankly I'm tired of it.

I have two heated feeders for the hummingbirds, and they make a big difference.

I can't bring myself not to do anything I can to keep them fed since they stay because they know there's a source of food. But I wonder how many get lost as most of the feeders are going to be froze and there's not much else for them this time of year. Heat is supplied by a 7 volt night light bulb.

The only other thing I've done lately is hand this large chime/bell. Even that was done in the rain. I'd like to do some yardwork, but I'm not raking or trimming anything until it gets a little drier.

That's about the end of 2021, I hope you all have a great New Year in 2022!
