The 2025 Christmas present opening knife

We have a classic Christmas Day family presents event. Not too large, just our sone, daughter in law and two grad kids, but we doit slow and take breaks for food and so on. this year, they will have a much more rambunctious family gathering with her side . . .at New Years for some reason.

I always bring my EDC Wave Plus multitool. Last year our son ruled both events with his birthday gift Chris Reeve Sebenza 31. This year, he may bring out the elegant little "estate find" William Henry I gave him.

Geez, Im not allowed to play this game.

I use my hands.

Tear it all open.

Why?

I don't want to scare anyone with the knives I carry.

My Mother requested this many years ago. Mom. So, I open everything by hand.
I ran into this with my old EDC Buck 110. Never a problem when I switched my EDC to a multitool or little SAK. Never an eyebrow raised with my other-in-law's friends at a Senior Living tea gathering.

Or try one of the little pry-bar gadgets that have a sharpened bit of edge, but no point. Is the "PryBaby" still out there?

OK, last year family-by-marriage were opening things in boxes, the torch was passed around until it was time for the wife's dad to open his gift, he received a parcel that needed a knife, fumbling his hands in the open air about, as if using some strange finger language to ask for an opener, the brother in law opened a knife blade out from a leatherman and handed it to him, he began to use the spine, of the knife--- to open the packaging... I looked around and was stunned to find that I was the only one dumb struck and stuck in that moment over how dumb and dangerous that was, everyone else was frozen with a bated smile, awaiting reveal.
I was then thankful the model of that leatherman wasn't the Bond...
Remember good folks, edge forward...
